Any help much appreiciated

Hi and welcome to ownership of the 993. Is this your first Porsche?
you have two choices I'd say.
1) get a copy of the workshop manual and DIY. You can find copies of the manual on line-may be rennlist in USA. Sometimes you will find the skills needed are high as may be special tools needed. In any event get membership of the club and enjoy a discount on parts at the many suppliers or breakers. There is not much you cannot find.
2) what most of us do! Find a local independent and get them to do it. Labour probably between 50 and 75 quid depending on location.
Regards
Robert.

Hi Robert thanks for the quick response, I am a PCGB member , but i am up in Inverness, I have had a 912 before this and she was easy to work on, I am fairly mechanically minded , and this car does not have a history to prop up her value ,so i am at ease doing work myself, I have just replaced Fuels lines etc which did not take too long. and given her a full service , which apart from the spark plugs was easy even the filter underneath with some internet lessons was fine

I will check the usual things contacts etc to see if i can see anything obvious , but just wondered if anyone on here might point me in the right direction. My nearest Porsche Garage is Aberdeen , and i am not sure where the nearest speicialist is so i will have to look around for one and put her on diagnostics if nothing is obvious,

any other Info you guys can give would be great by the way she is a carrera 4 with manual box from 1994. I intened to run her through the summer then drop the engine this winter for an overhaul if needed, the oil filters had rusted through when i bought her so had not been off for some years ... but compression hopefully is good Oil pressure etc is good so I will see how she goes, looking forward to getting her on the road this weekend after a full respray etc

Hi Chris welcome.

You won't get thru an mot with the airbag &abs lights on, so you'll need a diagnostic on those problems, worth finding a indy porsche man who will run the diagnostics to point you the right direction £120 worth well spent I'd say, even if you have to drive down to Edinburgh to find one.

There seems to be too many electrical faults here for there to be individual problems I would suggest. Has the main fuse box got moisture in it at some point and caused a bit of corrosion? Might be worth taking the fuses and relays out to see what state the terminals are in. If these are all OK I think, as others have said, a visit to an indi with the right diagnostic equipment would be in order. Otherwise you could be scrarching around for ages, for example, the ABD and ABS lights might be caused by a failed sensor in one of the hubs - but which one?

There are a few good indi's down in the central belt but not sure about up North - do a search on the Scotland forum and if nothing put a post asking the question. But might be just as cheap to book a diagnosis session with Aberdeen PC after factoring in petrol, etc

I'm with Clyde on this - check for dampness also under the passenger seat - also behind the carpet to left of passenger feet - there are a fair few things stuffed in there including (I think from memory) the reply for the rear spoiler. Otherwise an excuse to for a drive down the A9 (no - take the 82, a lot more fun) and visit an indie with a diagnostic tool.

Hi Chris,

If your ABS and ABD lights are on this is due to an ABS problem. If the disks were replaced recently one of the ABS sensors may be the source of your problems. Have them all checked to see if they properly mounted and clean. The spoiler will not work if you have an ABS problem since it works based on the ABS speed signal provided by the ABS speed sensor, the one located in the rear left wheel, through the central informer. I've faced and fixed this problem before.
I don't have any experience about airbag malfunction so, I will not dare to make any suggestion.

Francisco

I would make sure the battery is in good condition and fully charged. Then disconnect it for 10 -15mins and then reconnect and start the car, letting it idle.

I am not saying this will cure it, but I have seen a few electrical warning lights appear when the battery fitted has not been up to the job.

It just seems odd that you have more than one problem at the same time.

could also be due to moisture getting to earths/connections in dash area , clock contacts, and grounds on other instruments

Hi Guys , after some investigation looks like it is the back left sensor, now the speedo has stopped , is this one or the same problem, parts are ordered so watch this space

cheers

Chris
