993 Rear PU bumper stays replacements

This is next in my line of 993 jobs - anyone know a cheap(ish) source of rear bumper stays? Are there any re-manufactured ones out there ? Anythings got to be better than the rubbish originals ?

If not, anyone got any ideas on cost ? (DIY fitment, of course).

Hi Mark

Have a look here...

I believe that Nick Fulljames's brackets are due back at the end of next week..

I'm getting a set made up in 316 grade stainless steel. There were four different types made originally, so if you are a MY96-on NB car, you'll be able to fit these ones for sure.

They should be done this week, and if there's any interest I'll post up some photos.

Cost I hear you ask? Almost the same as Porsche's mild-steel versions which are (55x2+18x2) 146 plus VAT - the SS316 will certainly be less than 200 GBP.

I'm trying to negotiate a group-buy discount, though you will appreciate that most of the cost is labour.

Any thoughts on whether they'll fit the 94 MY cars ? As the older generation, we'll probably need them more than the 96MY youngsters ...

The NB MY95 and earlier cars ALLEGEDLY have a different support, because there is a different part number. But it doesn't mean the shapes of the two versions are actually different... it might mean the mounting points ARE different.

I have a NB MY95 volunteer awaiting the prototype SS supports, and we will test-fit it to his car.

I will be a volunteer to see if the supports can be bent to RS shape if you like, I have a new one that shape can be compared to and manipulated etc.

A little tip - I've just replaced mine. Be careful that the smaller one does not distort the plastic bumper when you push the bumper back on. I suspect that mine may be wrong part no. for my 1994 car. Great to find this out after I've put it all back together!
