993 RMS?

Just read this months Porsche Post and there are a number of references to the well-known RMS failure on Boxster engines - nothing new there - but I was surprised however to read that this problem also affects the 993?

Is this the case? - is the route-cause for known 993 failures really a manufacturing tolerance issue - as in the Boxster - or is it simply a wear/maintenance issue with our air-ccooled machines?

Thanks.

Never heard about it on a 993. Never had any mechanic mention it either to me. The 996/Boxster and 993 engines are totally different. If they do both have the same problem then it is by coincidence not by design.

Never heard of that issue on a 993 either, perhaps a crankseal has failed on a 993 but I wouldn't think it had anything to do with the crank being out of line.

I would take anything that Porsche Post prints on technical matters with a pinch of salt! I cannot remember what forum it was on but a so called expert made a sweeping statement about major failures in one of the Porsche models that created a major stink and was found to be basically untrue.

It was along the lines of this has happened to a few cars therefore they are all bad.
