Have seen some people asking about a roof rack for their 993. Just noticed one on Ebay so post the link here just for interest. I know nothing about the item, other than what is stated within the advertisment and no link with the seller.

A rare item indeed.

I see the seller says the keys are missing. But I have to say that, when I purchased mine, I could not work out if it was locked or unlocked or what the locks did because the wrist action requred to get at the allen key points (even when it's unlocked) is so unusual that your average theif would assume it's locked.

(But I am I bit mechanically backward[8|]).

Secondly, looking at mine, the lock barrels are proper jobs, not your average cheap Thule type. I suspect a professional lockmith could replace them (or, knowing Porcshe, they might even have part numbers!)

Don't know why he says it's heavy - it just looks it. Well engineered item. Like Michael I have no connection with the seller, I just like bike racks!

Thanks for that

Assume this is for a coupe, and the super rare cabriolet roof bar set would be different?

Pete

A cabriolet set popped up on ebay about 2 years ago while I was watching out for a coupe set. Came complete with ski holders which the owner thought were permanently attached - but I doubt.

Just to close this thread the roof bars were sold for £201. Has someone here got a Christmas present? [:)]

Michael

Wow - £201 - part of my car has appreciated in value! (And I even have the keys for mine!)

Shame is there must be quite a few hidden away in the back of garages (where the car has long since been traded).

All,

I am looking for one of these for a coupe. So if anybody has one or knows where to find one, please contact me.

Regards

Thule 951 feet on the front bar and 952 feet on the rear bar work also work well and are readily available.

Will look into this.

Any speed limitations over and above what Thule would recommend? Have you trialed this set up with bulky loads?

My intention would be to use it for surf board(s).

Has anybody got an unofficial recommendation from a OPC what to use instead of the orginal parts?

Finally, anybody decided to part with his 993 roof racks lately?

Regards

Does moving a 14ft extension ladder 650 miles at speeds of up to 100mph count? Admittedly the ladder was alse secured to tow hooks front and rear.

One possible issue is that the tops of the bars are not in the same plane due to the curve of the roof. This may or may not be an issue depending upon the Thule accessories you use to afix the boards.
