Thought I would take the RS for a health check with the intention of a remap at Wayne's ( Chipwizards ) the result was a massive power loss and a reading of 287 bhp on the first run, Wayne then got to work looking for the reasons, to his credit he found a minor vacuum leak on the varioram intake system, this leak was only a small elbow pipe adrift but the effects are dramatic resulting in the varioram basically not operating efficiently, secondly he found number four cylinder
plug lead adrift, hard to detect with 12 plugs but again resulting in power loss, and thirdly he suspected an incorrect electrical connection on the resonance flap solenoid valve, after downloading 1500 pages for the wiring diagram, true enough he was correct, so with the connector corrected, then his remap wizardry, a dyno reading of 342 bhp was achieved with 406 Nm @ 4170 or 298 ft lbs, the rs is like a different car now, superb job Wayne, cant recommend him enough, and a 55 bhp power gain, impressive stuff !

See if you drove it more Steve you would have noticed earlier[;)]

I'm about to fit a cargraphic exhaust on my 996TT and was just thinking I wonder what Wayne could do once it was on - what sorts of costs are you looking at for a remap and where does it have to be done?

Jason thats a fair comment, hard to believe a big power loss went unoticed, just wondering how long its actually been like that, had it serviced recently and maybe things were disturbed then, Wayne is based at Milnrow near Rochdale J21 M62,
price for the re map and minor problems was £400.00 plus vat,

Wayne is a genius !! Had similar vacuum collapse,on my rs cs , the yellow one, elbow and 'box' lost at least as much as ur talking abt after sorting unrecognisable ................well experienced folk walked around rubbing their chins until it got really bad ...then found it! Wayne did the gt2 ..say no more !

Steve, a serious question now you have your power back.

I'm trying to insure the '64RS CS and am being told by Manning that it's too powerful to fit into the PCGB trackday scheme --- at 335bhp and 3125 ft lbs ?

Who are you insured with ?

Aon dont seem to mind much ..........Classic car policy, 5 UK track days free then u pay modest amt per day

also have a mate with 964 rs clubsport, just been motec'd and has the ninemeister recently developed exhaust system,
his is now at 340 bhp, will have a chat because he is also with mannings.

Well I'm hoping it was a mistake by an inexperienced ? member of staff ?

I asked for insurace to include trackday and they came back to me with a Norwich Union option --- at 2.5 times what I am paying for the LHD '64RS with 285BHP (Privilege), and no trackday option !!

We shall see, no rush, but I am in for Oulton and Spa so a solution is required !

Vic, thanks for the AON suggestion.

Sounds like you need a Motec M600 RiveiraM002 this'll cure all yer power ills and I just happen to know where there's one for sale and will include the Map sensor and other bits (Hopefully the throttle position Sensor) plus the Software and manual, well over £2k new hardly used to you lot £1350 Now thats a real bargain

ORIGINAL: ChrisW
3125 ft lbs ?

Now you're into ocean liner pulling power Chris!! (Do hope that's a typo or you may need some beefed up half-shafts....[;)])

BTW, on the insurance front....AON won't cover forrin track days......
