993 RSR Exhaust ?

Just having some service work at my OPC on my 993 ('97 Varioram).

The engine has been removed for a new clutch, and they spotted a hole in the n/s exhaust box.

Before going ahead with a standard replacement, are there any recommended options for a new pair of boxes?

Main criteria:
- Don't want to detract too far from originality
- Looking for a nice sound, but nothing loud or invasive
- Easy fit (i.e. straight replacement)
- Good value - not wanting to spend too much

many thanks

I went for DesignTec items, which have a nice sound but needed a bit of fettling to get one to fit. The RSRs get a good name and Dansk are meant to be good and not horrendously expensive. Don't forget to budget for new heat shields, bolts and possibly support straps and tail pieces.

Thanks for that. Would these be a viable option? http://www.carnewal.com/products/P93/p93113/RSR-Mufflers

Those ones are used units that are worked on and sold on an exchange basis, so not as cheap as first appears. If your ones are holed I wouldn't think Gert would want them, which means you would lose the core charge and potentially the p&p costs to get them over there. I would drop Gert an email to see if he would want your existing boxes on an exchange in the condition they are in, he's very approachable. If he is happy to take them you could part x them for the new converted boxes if don't want used ones.

OK, heard from Gert at Carnewal and I understand the option of going for the RSR boxes. These are brand new Factory parts that have been internally modified to create an improved sound. For those who have them, how would you describe the difference in engine/exhaust noise. I know there are some examples on You Tube, but I'd appreciate some feedback. I'm not looking for loud or harsh - prefer subtle but sportier. thanks

Thanks for the advice. Did various searches and the RSRs seem to get a universal approval. The beauty being they are original Porsche parts, internally modified for subtle results. Ordered them from Gert on Tues (with heat shields), arrived at my OPC this morning They are carrying out the work whilst the engine is out for an oil leak, and precautionary new clutch, so they will take the opportunity to clean and refurbish everything as it goes back. Looking forward to the anticipated improvements.

The PC is happy to fit parts from a third party supplier Oliver? Wonders will never cease.

Why wouldn't they? They've been looking after my Porsches, old and new, for some 20+ years and I really can't fault the service.

You will love the sound Oliver. We put them on ours years ago and since then, all the 993s in Region 8 have gifted them :)

Sorry but they cant be brand new silencers, they cost over 400 euros each, what Gert supplies are modified used boxes, hence he wants your old units back

Gert offers two options: * Exchange for modified/re-furbed used mufflers (400 euros + p&p), or * New Porsche mufflers, modified internally (1050 euros + p&p) Mine were the original boxes, 18 years/50k mls old, so decided to go for the new option. I also added the new heat shields for 'cosmetics'. If anyone is interested, I will have two good heat shields, just need cleaning and spraying, plus a good r/h/s original muffler.

I bought some RSR exhaust boxes from Gert a good number of years ago (for my 993 C4S) and cut them back open to investigate the modification before fitting. Simple straight forward removal of the majority of the internals allows the sound to reverberate nicely! I played with a few alternatives for my Speedster, and ended up withthe Cargraphic Road Sport boxes. Midway sound level between standard and the RSR mod. Graham.
