993 Serving costs

Serving cost on 48000 miles would I be right in saying that having full OPC stamps for service history is better than having specialists, the reason why I'm posing the question is that price difference is no different, but the specialist is throwing in a free front end wheel alignment due to front end skipping on uneven road surfaces, but will the work carried out be as good, do they us original Porsche parts.( I assume so) are the Secialist better due to the model.

Can anyone advice options to do will this service on 993 OPC stamps or Spec

Depends on the specialist. Some specialists are better than OPCs for 993s and as such their stamp in the book means as much or more than an OPC stamp. Depends on the local specialists and local OPCs of course.

I have just had a 48k service on a 993 at PCT in Coventry. They know their 993s and are as good as any OPC including being able to perform full kinematic alignment.

Cost was around £750 including VAT but I provided my own oil (around £100). That included replacing the gearbox oil which some people don't do until 96k miles.

Ian.

PS Good to hear Silverstone have got some decent 993 people. When they first opened I was undewhelmed with them to say the least.

Cheers all.

Ian do you have their details for me to get in touch for a quote.
you supplied you own oil what did you use? were did you get it ?

PCT : 08456 444 993 then option two for PCT. Ask to talk to Simon.

As far as oil is concerned they will put in whatever you ask them to. Either they can provide it or you can. Maurice has posted a couple of oil articles in the Technical Articles for the 993 forum on which oil to use. I have used Opie Oils (look in the Oil and Fuel section on the main page) before to buy my own oil but it depends on which one you want as to where to get it from .

Have a look at Opie specialist Simon Barnards oil info here.

Hi Ian,

Are you sure they do their own kinematic alignment? My car had all it's previous service work carried out by PCT, however, the alignment paperwork shows that it was subbed out to a local OPC.

I'll ask them and report back. I have just had it done. Maybe they did sub that bit out to the OPC but I don't think so.

Yes PP you are correct they still sub the kinematic alignment out to the OPC. I would say if that is all you want doing then take it straight to the OPC. I had a 48k service plus a suspension upgrade done so made sense to use PCT.

I wonder what the price difference is ? from getting the work done via PCT or direct with the OPC....

Thanks for clarifying that.

I'm going to get some suspension work done at some stage. I think I'll stick with PCT, it's just nice to know who is doing exactly what.

Just an update to this; I spoke to PCT last week and they told me they now have the equipment to perform kinematic alignment themselves so no longer sub out the work.

Ian.

I had my alignment done at PCT a few months ago- they've certainly got all the bits, kinematics thingys etc. Nice guys too, esp Simon.

I found an oil distributor that will deliver 4x 4ltr Mobil 1 (0w40 or 15w50) for £130 (incl VAT). Their web site is www.foslubrication.co.uk. That makes it a bit cheaper than Halfords, but a lot cheaper than an OPC, plus you have some left over for top up.
