993 soft top failure, help!

1. Handbrake Problem - You haven't got the handbrake on .... Alternatively there's a problem with the cut out there and the car thinks the handbrake isn't on
2 Electric Problem - no power so nothing working at all. Can you hear any electrical movement at all when you press the roof button? is the hood warning lights on the dash on?
3. Gearbox/Motor problem - if there's power to the gearboxes but they're not working then perhaps you've simply got a gearbox problem. I'd expect to hear some grinding though indicating that pwoer was getting in somewhere
4. Mechanical problem with the locking system - There was a recall for the locking system (see other threads). It was designed to stop roofs flying open accidentally and a double failure seems unlikely so this doesn't look like an obvious cause of the roof being locked shut but if the locking motors (or power to them) failed then it might account.
Best of luck. Although it's raining here now and the one thing worse than having the roof locked up is having it broken with the top down ... You may want to leave well alone unless you've got a garage.

This is the logic for the Cab roof mechanism - first question is regarding the first acton "Microswitches Inside locking motors send signal to turn "top is up" warning light on" - does the warning light come on? This would signify that the switch, handbrake interlock and power to the cab control unit are working
Have you checked the fuse for the motors (can't remember the number, but it would be on the lid of the fuse box)
Have you had the recall done for the locking motors?
Has this happend suddenly, or have you had problems with the roof operation in the past?
Pete
1. Button is pushed to open top - IF microswitches in top are depressed AND upper OR Lower microswitch on passenger side transmission is NOT depressed, THEN rotate locking motors to open position. Microswitches Inside locking motors send signal to turn "top is up" warning light on.
2. IF Microsiwtches in top bar are open AND microswitchs on passenger side transmission are not depressed, turn on electric motors in back of car, retracting top.
3. IF bottom microswitch on passenger side transmission is depressed, AND Microswitches inside locking motor indicate latched unlocked, AND microswitches on top bar are open THEN Stop cabriolet top retracting and turn off "top is open" light
To Close:
Button is pushed: IF # 3 above still applies, turn transmissions the other way. Until one of the following happens.
1. Top microswitch on transmission top is depressed - top stops immeditely, regardless of top position
2. IF microswitches in top bar are depressed AND top microswitch on transmission is NOT depressed, turn locking motors to 'Lock" position until internal microswitch in locking motor indicates "lock", then turn out "top is open" light.
