993 Suspension uprade update

Hi everyone. When I fitted the new M033 suspension to the car about two months ago the article raised opinions and options which were many and varied and i am sure all of them in their on right probably correct. I did say at the time that I would let the members know how the car handled when pushed beyond normal road driving. Yesterday had the pleasure of being at Castle Combe with Region 16 for the Classic and Sports Car Magazine Action Day. Had booked some track time for the car and can only describe the handling as more than up to the job. As confidence grew the braking became less and the car was entering corners very quickly and leaving them even quicker. The track was fairly busy and there were the usual 'brain in neutral brigade' with their £500 car intent on seeing how many they could intimidate, so one had to pick your way around somewhat. All in all thoroughly enjoyable time and very pleased with the car. Indication of its cornering adhesion was provided when examination of the P Zreo Rosso's afterwards showed a surface with micro blistered surfaces. I haven't created a track day special but have fitted a 12 year old car with factory supplied equipment and established beyond doubt how ahead of their time these fantastics cars were and still are.

Does this setup make the car noticeably harder for normal road use? Was going to uprate the suspension on my cab and spoke to Gert but read feedback indicating that it might make it too hard for non-track driving.

Thanks for the update Mike. My 993 is currently at a garage having the M030 spings, anti roll bars and Bilstein HD upgrade fitted. I will report back as soon as it is done.

The ride on the road is absolutely fine. You don't get to loosen your tooth fillings every time you go over a bump. One thing I found to indicate how smooth it is, is that Castle Combe is commonly refered to as a 'bumpy circuit' and it certainly didn't seem too bad at all yesterday. Thankfully we are all different and we all look for different things in our own individual cars. I am not saying this is the perfect set up by any means but it suits my use of the car which is the weekend jaunt with a partner who is a nervous passenger, the weekend away with some spirited driving and the odd excursion onto the track.

M033 uses standard spring rates and just lowers the car. When fitted togther with standard factory shock absorbers the car will feel no different than normal. When the components are fresh it is a very good setup for road use. The key term being fresh as the only problem with this setup is the factory shock absorbers don't last long before they degrade (20K-30K miles of road use?). As Mike has said it's an excellent road setup when all the parts are in good condition which also works well enough on track for people not looking for ultimate track performance or durability.

Gert probably wasn't referring to this setup but rather M030 which has stiffer springs and when typically matched with HD Bilstein shock absorbers gives a harder, firmer ride. Lots of people like M030, which also has bigger anti-roll bars helping further to reduce body roll, but perhaps the extra stiffness is not recommended for a Cabriolet (I think the same applies to the Targa as well).

Ian,

Thanks for the added information. Will speak to Gert tomorrow and see about ordering the MO33 package

Thanks to Mike's positive comments, my Targa's booked in with Steve Bull to have this done next week.... maybe you should be asking for commission, Mike??!

Only too happy to impart some personal experience and information for hopefully the benefit of others.I think the whole concept of the likes of the forum is that we can communicate with each other and collate and pool resources for the common good. Hope you are satisfied with the outcome. Have certainly found Steve Bull to be 100%. Good luck.
