993 Targa Glass Roof

Hadrian

New member
Hi,

My 1996 Targa glass roof has been scratched/vandalised and though its only a cosmetic defect on first inspection I'm worried it may be a crack in the outer laminate glass. The defect is easy to feel but there is nothing to feel on the inside of the glass.

Is anyone aware of these cracking spontaneously?

Any ideas of cost for replacement?

Cheers,

Hadrian

Hi Hadrian

Mine has a few scratches. Bee like it since I had it 5 years ago. No change. Just scratches. I'm sure the roof is toughened glass and coated cause of the tint

You should be fine. Not sure who else you could ask. A windscreen replacement company??

What I do know is that to replace the glass the windscreen has to come out. I'm not even sure if you can still get a new one from Porsche! Never tried!

Hope this helps

Graham

Hi Hadrian,

Had a small stone chip in the wind deflector on mine about three years ago, and over the course of a few days it propogated into a crack. The new part was about £800 or so from what I remember, but it was covered by my windscreen insurance, which is actually "glass" insurance normally. So I would call your insurance company and see if you're covered.

Good luck

Stuart

Hi Stu

Hows you?

Your insurance, is the roof and wind deflector covered under the glass/windscreen part or the main policy? Did you just have to pay the glass/windscreen excess like any normal car? I remember asking my insurance a few years ago if the roof was covered in the glass cover and was told no! Don't know about the wind deflector thou

Hi Graham,

At the time "all glass" was covered by the so called "windscreen insurance", I've since changed insurance companies, think I may just get the policy out and look at it !

And yes paid the £50 or so excess, didn't seem too bad on a bill in excess of a grand.

Roof now great !

Stuart
