993 Targa Sliding Blind

Hi I have just bought my 993 Targa and need to fix the sliding blind.

When I press the button, the mechanical sliding mechanism seems to work okay but the blind is not connected to it and hence does not move. It looks like it may be down to some broken clips, but because I've never seen it wokring I have no idea what these clips look like or how they fasten on.

Would someone mind taking some close up pictures of their mechanism and describing roughly how it works?

Many thanks.

Richard.

From memory there is a small pin as part of the rail on each side that slides back as you press the button. It sticks up from the rail I think. Then there is a small right-angled piece of metal about an inch by half an inch that fits over this pin and also clips to the edge of the blind. This is how the blind is attatched to the rail.

Sound like these have come off at some time.

It's been a couple of years since I sold mine so can't send you a picture.

Richard,

If I get the chance later I'll try taking some pictures. The mechanism is pretty crude, to be honest, but it should be simple enough to repair if you have the parts.

The blind itself has the cross member at the rear to stiffen it. There is an angled bracket that slots in to this on each side, with a guide (tab) on the back of it that then goes into the (black plastic) guide runners that run the length of the roof.

The retracting arm is then also connected to the angled bracket - basically the small pin on the back of the bracket pushes through the hole at the front of the arm. It's a very (very!) poorly designed connection, and tends to pop out regularly. I've had to put mine back together a couple of times when the arm has come off. Only takes a few minutes, but it's pretty annoying.

Cheers,
John
