My wife had two Targas - when the weather is cooler the seals shrink (as well as shrinking / hardening naturally over time) - this small amount of shrinkage will cause some small movement - and hence, probably, the noise your hearing.

You could I suppose look into the cost of replacing the seals - but I dread to think how much it'd be [8|]

I think I may know what this is as I had the same problem. There is a metal block which holds the front of the targa roof up on either side, secured with an allen screw. I found that the allen screw on the drivers side had worked loose, the roof and block had dropped slightly, and the block was vibrating against the roof channel. There is limited room to work between the underside of the glass roof and the edge of the channel but I opened the roof a little, pushed the roof up, which lifted the block, and tightened the allen screw. Problem solved. I hope yours is as easy to fix!

Thanks for the replies, I pushed the seal down from outside the car and the noise did go away for a time. I will have a look at the bolts as described and make sure they are tight.

For the seals it may be worth trying some vaseline/petroleum jelly type stuff. Just rub in and wipe off any excess. I bought some stuff from BMW (in the days before I knew better!) which I use to preserve all the door rubbers, bonnet rubber etc. Works well on everyday cars kept outdoors in Winter, helps stop the rubber freezing to the door.
