993 targa - what's it worth?

Hi there,

A friend of mine has a 1997 993 Targa tiptronic he is considering selling. It has full OPC history except the last one which was autofarm, with 37k miles on the clock. Arctic silver with metropole blue leather, sports seats, rear hoop spoiler, clear lenses etc. Mechanically standard.
New brakes 7 k miles ago, as was the 24k mile service.
It's a very nice car - when he bought it in 2004 the OPC inspected it and only found the heated element in the passenger wing mirror glass wasn't working! In fact if it wasn't a tiptronic I'd buy it myself.
He's punted it around various dealers who have come back with the usual comedy prices to buy it for cash, so is now looking to sell it privately
What is a sensible price to ask for this car? I was thinking 27-30k but would appreciate your views.

Regards

keith

You have to assume it's going to need a clutch while with the next owner, it sounds like it's had some care, but not over lavish care. It's a tip, which is fine, unless you are looking for a 993 (IMHO).

I think 30 is perhaps a bit strong for a private transaction. In a dealer you would see it at 30, (or a spot more if it has a stone chip front end respray and a 48K service just done and perhaps a bit of warrentee.)

But it is quite low mileage, so you never know your luck. (esp if you get someone specifically after a low mileage Targa)

Let us know what it goes for...

It does have low miles and a popular colour in it's advantage, but...... it's a tiptronic and from what I've seen when constantly looking for a 993 over the past 5 months, this does knock the price down. I'd say 26k to 27k.

Also some purists would say that Targa's are worth a little less as well.

Best to take a look at what the dealers are offering and then take a £2 or 3k off for the so called warranty and prep. Take a look at Paragon as they only seem to have tiptronic 993's at the mo (haha) http://www.paragon.gb.com/sales/default.asp

I bought a Targa last November and, to the contrary, my own experience was that they were generally seeming to command a premium of a few £K over Coupe of comparable age/condition/mileage.

£29k...just generally looking around.......but hold out for that price.........they rise as summer comes along......

What a load of hog wash. Purists (and a strange bunch they are too) don't like anything other than a coupe, but they are certainly not worth less.

Tip is one of those things that you either like or dislike. Personally, I always wanted one but I do know that I am in the minority.

29k would seem a fair price without seeing the car.

For reference, what looked like a very nice manual Targa with 43,000 miles went up for sale on 911virgin yesterday at, from memory, £30,500 and sold straight away.

Out of interest, what were the 'comedy' trade in values, and were they just for cash, or against a newer car ?
