993 targa wheels

I am looking to refurbish my wheels and have come accros a challenge. What type of bolts should be used on a 1996 993 targa? Should they be shiny or dark? The ones on at the moment have been painted and are domed allan studs. Is this original? I am thinking that as it is a targa therfore instead of using standard wheels - would the centers be heavier along with stainless steel bolts rather than alloy?

Does anyone have any close up pictures or specification of the studs?

Howard

Hi mate just bought a Targa and the previous owner had recently had the wheels refurbed i have a good pic of them but haven't gotta clue how to put it on the forum ... i could e mail to you or if you know what to do i,ll gladly put it on here

Hi Howard

I have a 96, 993 Targa. I had the 2 rear ones refurbished 3 years ago now. I have attached a pic of one of my alloys.
Hope this helps

Hi Graham yours look different to mine ...although mine were refurbed prior to me buying my Targa so im not entirely sure how they should look are the studs a sort of satin black on yours ???

Also how do you place attachments on the forum ??? i have an apple mac ... not much to do with wheels i know but really frustrating !!!

Satin black is the best description for them. Same as your side window surrounds. The original finish corrodes badly over time it seems. Having owned a Targa the previous owner to me must have had the same problem because the wheels had been reburbished with stainless finish bolts which of course were much more hard wearing but not original.

Ian.

PS regarding pictures the best bet seems to be to host them on something like Photobucket or Google pictures and then link to them in your post. I now use Google because it has a iMac uploader available (another Mac user here).

how much did it cost you guys? i got quoted well over a hundred squid each wheel cos they're split rims, apparently. would like to get them done but not at 600 quid for the set...

Not many places will touch split rims. When I had my two rears ones done 3 years ago Reading OPC still would do them, now they won't. They cost me £180 per wheel then. The body shop they use round the corner will if you go direct to them. I did ask them last year how much but i have forgotten. I do know that they strip, split and dip them before repainting. The are very good. I will have to try and find there number. I'm hoping when mine goes for it's service Oct/Nov I will get my N/S front done. It is really bad now. Streaks in the lacker and rusty bolts all round. It will not polish up at all.
£600 for a set if they do as above would be worth it, well i would.
