993 Targa

I' m considering a 993 targa given than, at least on paper, its more practical than my 964 cab. Apart from the obvious differences between 964 and 993, has anyone any comments on living with their 993 targa.
Thanks, Neil

I' ve had my 97 Targa for a couple of months now and love it.

I had originally wanted a cab. but once I drove a targa, knew that it would be more practical (easier to get the kids in and out of the back, open and close the roof on the move when caught in rain, better security etc).

It does squeak a bit, and I' m sure is not as rigid as a coupe, but I suspect is better than a cab.

Very happy with MY 96 Targa. No squeaks, rattles. There was a brief engine vibration buzz from the rear speaker housing but it went away. Originally wanted a Cab as once had a ' 88 MB SL500 but on reflection, cab roof limited my use of the car being vulnerable to penknife attack and replacement necessary in time. No such fears with Targa and roof lets in lots of sunshine. Best of both worlds.
Have Tip as had problems with size 11s and close pedal position with manual box. Tip mapping quite sophisticated and both hands on the wheel feels a lot safer with the hammer down!

Wasn' t happy at first, but have grown to love the car.
Use it daily and have covered 13K miles in 11 months !!!
Its a Tip S and I have learnt how to use it.

Take the plunge and get one !!

The beauty of the Targa is open top motoring at any speed. I recently returned from Le Mans in the company of another 993 Targa and 3 other 911' s (coupes) and a Boxter. The tempearture was in the mid 30' s and our two Targas were belting on at 155mph with the roof down! No huge wind noise like you would get in a cab and the benefit of a suntan! The Boxter had to stop and put the roof up!

I have had minefor 18 months and it is a fantastic car.Go and get one before the end of the summer...

everybody seems to be saying this is the best 911 to go for.

it is a nice car graham but that is a bit of a sweeping statement[:D]
it is probably one of the least depreciating, and also one of the most beautiful(imo)but it is definately only "the best" for certain people.for everyday usability many of us would take issue with that
do make sure its what your needs match before going for it purely as a means of avoiding depreciation as this is never a good reason for buying a car (again imo)

From my memory there were not many made as Graham above said. I'm surprised there were more manuals made than tiptronic. I had a tip and loved it, had it ages but never felt it a drivers car with the dull gear box. Shape wise, looks wise fantastic car, can't beat it unless it's a 993 turbo or something else sexy in that shape!!

What is surprising is that they only sold 3600 odd total 993 throughout the whole production run in the UK against 68000 thousand built!
