Hi 993 owners just a last reminder 993 Tuning Tips is scheduled for Sat october 9th at Porscheshop premises near Halesowen West Midlands and should be a very interesting day. We have two of the best specialists who know all about 993's and they are Neil Bainbridge from BS Motorsport and Bob Watson from Bob watson Engineering. Plus a specialist oil technician from Millers Oils and even better 24 hr 1970 Porsche Le Mans winner Richard Attwood who is also a Porsche Silverstone Experience Instructor a fantastic guest speaker. . FREE 993 inspections on the day call Narinder at Club Office and reserve you place . Hurry Oct 9th is not very far away. Finally Chris Horton from 911 & Porsche World hopefully will be chairingh the day. Ken Coad 993 Asst Register Secretary

Yes - there seems to have been little talk on here about it - but looking forward to seeing a few other 993ers.

Taking the opportunity to drop my wheels off with Chris from Exel Wheel and get the refurbed - so by that time I arrive on Saturday I'll have "loan wheels" on the car - he has promised me they won't be 17 inch - so I'll be able to see how car handles with something different![&:]

Who else?

Yes we'll be there - anybody know what the start time is or the agenda?

Regards
Anton

Found it! It's where I should have looked in the first place! Start is 10:30am

A brilliant day - my thanks to the organisers and to Porscheshop for hosting the event.

Kind regards
Anton

Thoroughly enjoyed the event, thanks to Stewart for bringing me along, and thanks to all the presenters and organisers

[FONT=arial"]Thanks to all speakers, hosts and organisers. A really good day; I learned a lot, had some interesting chats and it was a privilege to hear Richard Attwood.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Agree with all the above a great day out, with some good information and some very useful tips.

Just for interest I got there and back on a full tank 332 miles at an average of 26.7 mostly motorway.

Michael

Ditto, really good day - made especially good by the fasinating talk by Richard Attwood.

I must admit I'd almost not noticed him on the agenda and certaintly did not realise his sigificance in Porsche race history. On that subject: at the lunch break some of us were trying to remember which Le Mans year was the topic of the Steve McQueen film - so I put the DVD on last night - there is almost nothing to identfy the year - except on the flag used at the start of the race - it is indeed 1970. So must watch it properly again when I have time (while remembering it is hollywood fiction!). Has made me want to go on a club trip to Le Mans!

Thanks to Ken and everyone who put in the effort to make this happen and to PorscheShop for hosting it. (Now need to find the cause of my leaking front-diff thanks to the free inspection[8|])

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]I agree - a very good day - many thanks to Ken, Maurice et al - it was nice to meet some old friends again.

Porscheshop were great - hosting the event, organising the (pretty good) greasy spoon, the free inspections and, last but not least, sorting out my punctured rear tyre.

It occurs to me that the information from the free inspections could be collated and analysed to see which are the most common problems - I came out pretty well with only 3 minor issues -
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
  1. [FONT=verdana,geneva"]N/S front brake air-duct damaged (I knew that - a high kerb)[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
  2. [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Timing-chain covers leaking slightly[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
  3. [FONT=verdana,geneva"]O/S bottom rocker-cover [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=verdana,geneva"]leaking slightly[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Anyone else have similar problems?

The agenda was really good, and thankfully not as many questions on oil as there had been at the last event [;)]
[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Richard Attwood's recollections were fascinating and a reminder of how dangerous motorsport was - and probably still is. The best bit, though, was almost an afterthought - the final question on unclipping leather seat covers on the hardbacks. A solution at last [:D] - 8 extra clamping "u" pieces per seat - Porsche part no 993 507 526 01. Thanks, Colt.

To those who were subjected to my whining about the nail in my rear tyre, you'll be pleased to hear that there may yet be a happy ending. On the way home I got to thinking. The car had not been used during the previous week. It had been on the driveway on Friday afternoon for a quick polish and was then put straight back in the garage - I also checked tyre pressure at this time and everything tyre-wise seemed fine. Saturday morning - the rear n/s tyre was flat. I must have picked up the nail in my driveway. How? Then I remembered that my neighbour had had the Sky satellite dish installers in on Friday morning. So when I got home from Porscheshop, I had a look around - sure enough, there on the gravel
[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]beneath where he had been working [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]was a cable-clip with nail pointing upwards. Gotcha! The Sky 'technician' must have dropped at least two [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=verdana,geneva"]cable-clips - I hope there are no more lurking. I am now trying to recover the £250 from Sky. My neighbour, a nice chap, has to make the official complaint - I can't, apparently. We'll see :)

Thanks again all
M

Matthew, Good idea - here are mine:

Non-N Rated tyres - Caught! - but they are the loan wheels while mine are being refurbished
N/S front brake air-duct damaged (Snap - I knew that, don't know what caused it)
Small scrape N/S/F bumper (Yes - must get front end resprayed)
Front Diff Seals slight leak - had not noticed that
5 bulbs in the 3rd brake light needs replacing (5! - OK, better get that done then)
Air Con not working

Those inspections were very worthwhile - thanks Porscheshop!

My Arena Red 993 C4 Varioram

Split rear CV boot that I didn't know about - booked into Northway's now - it wasn't due for a service for another 6 months and it's just been MOT'd so it was really good to know about that problem otherwise it could have been a lot more expensive!

Flickering O/S front side light - faulty LED that I had on order - now replaced.

Slight leak from the cam covers.

Slight leak from the timing chain cover.

I'll live with the last two for the moment as oil consumption is minimal!

Regards
Anton
