I think most 993 Turbo owners are aware that the correct Porsche crankcase oil filter (the smaller filter) for the turbo is required which has a back flow valve incorporated into it. I am very careful to get the correct filter and the filter used for my last oil change 3 months ago did not look correct. I queried it but was assured it was correct by my OPC. Unfortunately it was not correct and I have had oil back flow issues in winter storage.
The correct Porsche code for a 993 Turbo Crankcase Oil Filter is 99310720304. This code was not active when my oil change was done 3 months ago. I understand this code is now active but I have not been able to find any OPC that has stock and it seems it may take 4 weeks to get stock. I have now managed to get hold of an old stock filter but that was not easy.
Just take care if you have a service booked for a 993 turbo in the next few weeks that the correct crankcase oil filter is available from Porsche and will be fitted to your car. The better approach maybe just to wait until this mix up with filter codes is resolved and stock of the correct filter is again available.
