993 turbo ownership v cs2/c4s

Looking for a 993 c2s/c4s now. While doing a view other day I bumped into a 70k mile turbo at Paragon and the little voices started in my head and had me questioning ( a little) my current selection criteria. Car was £40k so some £5k north of what I am expecting to pay for similar mileage c2s/c4s - but that gap is not so large.

Are these cars as bomb proof as the standard cars? I have heard not but would be interested in views on this and assume repair/maintenance costs much higher?

and keeping the Turbo bomb in tack requires a bit more cost...... but well worth while..... I would if I could, as after a year of a non-turbo 3.6, the Targa is feeling a bit slow ! [;)]

993 turbo maintenance costs are huge. £3K for major service - new tyres, discs and pads included. Dont expect change from a grand for a "minor" service either. And if anything big goes pop, well.....

I think that's a bit strong, it normally costs £200 for new pads fitted, £600 for tyres, £800 for disks. Unless your tracking the car all these items should last ages, I just paid £150 to change the oil, the rest of a minor service should take no more than another couple of hours. If the car is a good one I don't believe the running costs are that much more than a non-turbo, if it's a bad one you can be into £10k for top end rebuild and turbos (I've got the reciepts !).

They really are great cars, very easy to drive around town but press the loud pedal and the performance is dramatic, not ideal track cars as they are too heavy and too much under steer.

If there is a chance you can afford it ( oh hell even if you cant ) go for the turbo.
nothing on this earth comes close

although a turbo would probably have a better specifictaion.......
