993 Turbo Twist Wheels onto Targa

Hi All,

I have some 18 inch turbo twists ready to go onto my 993 targa. I appreciate they make the ride stiff etc but i think they look great, so willing to give it a go. The part numbers of the wheels are below and they are on brand new Bridgestone's 225/40 zr18 s-02a and 265/35 zr18.

FRONTS - 7.5J X 18 - ET50 - PART NO. 993.362.134.06
REARS - 10J X 18 - ET65 - PART NO. 993.362.140.04

My question is for all you experts out there, is do I have to worry about offset or will they just fit nicely?

Help!

Thanks.

The 17" Split rims suit it best, the 18" could cause problems.

Thanks for all the advice. I put them on this morning and they are absolutely fine. No difference as yet to the ride on 17's but look loads better!

The way it was explained to me was that because the 18" tires have a much lower profile the ride is harder compared to 17". This extra vibration is believed to cause additional stresses and wear & tear on the targa roof mechanism, motors, micro switches etc. all of which are fairly delicate. Considering the age of these cars and their components you should think carefully about fitting these.

creaks and puddles?

I would find it astonishingly unlikely that any current insurance company employee would know the existance of TSB no. 18 10 07 3707/4, 4th edition of 2002

...and I can't find that TSB anymore.

However, I'd still source some so-called Cup2s and fit those instead.

I recall the 18" wheels requiring a reinforcing strut on the steering rack too; oddly my own Targa has this item despite the strong official line that 18" wheels area no-no as described above (thankfully my wheels are the standard split, lightweight 17"). Good luck!
