993 Turbo

A car is being auctionned in Greece described as a "993 Turbo" with serial number "WP0ZZZ99ZTS372319". Is there a way to track down the history or find what options the car had? is it really a Turbo?

Hi

If you look at the "modern" section of the forum there is a VIN analyser that will answer your question. The option codes should be listed on a sticker under the bonnet or in the log book.

There is quite a bit of discussion on alternative exhausts over at the 993uk Forum.

You might think you wouldn't miss the power, but believe me you would. Surely you wouldn't want to sacrifice the power for a little extra noise? Also the turbo is creeping up again in values, and will continue to do so judging by recent 930 and 964 appreciation.

In any case, you'll never be loudly than the city boys in their Aston's and Lamborghinis!
 
Dont despair I suffered from the same when I originally bought mine.

First thing to do is to get someone else to drive your car whilst you are stood at the side of the road. The first thing you will be surprised at is how noisy it already is when in take off mode!! you just dont get the benefit.

1 - The cheapest mod is to fit a set of Fabspeed exhaust bypasses cost U$550, they are literally a foot of stainless steel that bypass the mufflers which you remove and save quite a bit of weight and then you will be louder than the lambo's! and you are not assailed by the noise in the cabin when cruising. Beware about 115db at its noisiest.

2 - or go for a Carnewal exhaust from Belguim €400, he usually wants a doner exhaust to keep the costs down as he basically cuts the mufflers open disembowels them and reseals. This isnt as noisy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csX2f53pS64

3 - You can go for 100 or 200 cell cats, €695 exchange again with Carnewal which are more expensive, they improve sound and can be used inconjunction with an ECU remap for an extra 10% power


Trust me you will love it if you like noise!
 
Hello anto, I second muffler bypass pipes from Fabspeed. They are a very easy to fit, effective, cheap mod for the 993 turbo. You wont beleive how much different your turbo will sound after fitting them. I also fitted a BMC filter and also purchased fabspeeds air intake, which just replaces the airbox cover with a hollow one,(or you couild just drill some holes in the cover). All these will help you get that sound you desire and are all easy to reverse, if it comes to selling your pride.
Ive had mine installed for about 3 years now and dont plan to reverse them for a long time, if ever.

Just one other thing, they are very loud when cold, but once driven 2 miles up the road they quiet down considerably to a nice burble.

But that is a huge increase in noise over stock. Sports rear boxes will make a difference, 100 cell cats make a big difference, all depends how much you want to spend, you can easily spend over £2K without fitting or VAT!

There's no need to spend 2k, just go for bypasses.[;)]

Muffler bypasses are loud, but they are also easy to live with. Especially once the car is warm, which as you know Anto, takes no time.
Plus there is little noise change within the cabin itself, eg no boominess.
 
The turbo is wonderfully quiet, it was designed to be that way, it was the Porsche flagship of the day and a high (very high) speed tourer.

A N/A 993 makes all the right noises when you take it upto the redline, if that`s all you want they are available at half the price.

The Dansk ones are a mix of stainless and chrome plated steel and look like cr*P after a few years. I can post photos as proof!
 
Your 997 will continue to depreciate and your 993 turbo will continue to gradually increase in value. 54k means it's a good 'un. Better than taking the 54k and putting in bank with crap interest rates..
 
You still think the 993 prices will rise even more then I hope your rite but where will they go 80 90 100k I'm not so sure but what I do no is build of the 993 is sooooo much better
 
Yes, I think all 993 values will (worst case) be stable and gradually creep up. Rare models such as Turbo will probabably appreciate by a bigger margin. Like many supercars of a previous generation, their status heightens as they become a rarer sight on the roads, they become collector's cars, and the supply, already very limited, diminish further. Mine was at Porsche GB HQ on Saturday and the boss of the workshop strongly advised me to never let it go!

It's quite a small market for 993 turbos so it takes a while for values to be realised, but they do sell and very simply, for a good, well mainatined, car you have to pay more now than you did 2 years ago.

I had 996tt and 997 and got fed up with the depreciation, relatively expensive running costs and seeing them everywhere! Both brilliant cars but as you say the 993 was built to a different standard.

Spot on, over the last 5 years cars have been going up by 5 to 10% per annum. You have probably noticed a 2005/6 50k 997TT is worth about £10k less than a 50k 993TT

£54k is a premium price for a privately owned 993TT in Arena Red as they have been fetching a few k lesss than the silver and black cars. Without knowing the mileage and history would presume yours is an immaculate car with fsh and 30/40k miles at that price. Oh and buy the way every one I have met who has ever owned a 993TT, for ever regrets the day they sold it!

Would be very interested in you giving a comparison of the two cars.
