993 v New TT...performance???

Coasting along local dual carriage way...New Audi TT...pulls alongside.........

Both put foot down........and its very close..........between 50-90......

Roundabout curtails fun....... however...........is this about the right performance of our 10year plus cars +++

I know the 993 is such a better looking car......and I know which one I would rather be in and ........the TT driver was staring at the 993 far more than I was staring at his slab sided roller skate....coloured in nice primer grey........

However.........if its a performance issue....would you spend your money elsewhere now........?

PS...I love the 993.....and would not sell it !!!!!!

Also...mine been to Wayne Schofield...running at 295BHP (4 Months ago).....Tech Exhaust..+ Motorsound.... and appears to be running well

Must v'e been the TT 3.2 because they are pretty quick. Im a boxster owner (on the verge of upgrading to a 993 C2) but ive just been to le mans and back in my mates TT 3.2 and they certainly shift.

I know what you mean though, as much as our cars look better, handle better, sound better etc these days there are so many cars that want to prove something and sometimes they surprise you. When you buy a porsche you expect to wipe the floor with such pond life but some modern cars (particularly Audi's, Hondas, and most TDI's) are incredibly nippy. Ask them what theirs will be worth in ten years time though. !
 
tt3.2 stronic does 0-60 in 5.5ish so is about same acceleration as a 993
i test drove one before buying the cayman s and found it to be a totally bland experience

Wouldn't sell my 993 either for the likes of a TT[:'(], but have you seen the Audi R8?
Still wouldn't sell my beloved 993, but you can't deny that it will certainly have some presence on the road,[8D] if you're in the position to afford one, that is[:-]. And they are very quick.
 
I have recently bought my wife a 535D M Sport which has been DMS chipped to 335bhp and 512lb torque - in the midrange 30 to 90 it pulls like a train and I can't keep up with it BUT come the twistys and its toast - now what you mean though I did (albeit briefly) consider a new 335D coupe - but I still love the 993 too much.
 
It's not just the performance that matters though is it? (...or is that like saying it's not size that matters... [8|] ) ...anyway, in another 10 years most new cars will be scrapped because of the sheer cost and / or difficulty of fixing one or more of the electronics or maybe even just having to replace a dozen airbags.
 
Diesel Mercs are quick these days, too. (in a straight line). It's horses for courses - if you want a nimble, involving sports car with loads of heritage and good looks, buy a 993. If you want a car that'll pull like a train, cruise all day at 110 and deliver four people in comfort feeling relaxed, buy a Merc.

Both are equally impressive in their own way.
 
if it was between 80-120 I think it would have been different! ;)

anything can happen below 100mph, even the latest hot hatches are very quick up to 100. gearing, torque etc.

In my experience 911's get in to their stride after 100mph

having seen the fab 997 TT in black last night at my opc(test drive this afternoon!)i can only concur-it looks nothing like the audi TT and probably not drive much like it either!!-bit more expensive tho[:D]

Mmm. See what you mean. And to put the record straight, I'd definitely rather have a 993 TT (Twin Turbo[:D]) than an Audi TT.
 
I love all current Audis, the interiors are fantastic, so is the driving position, the engines, the grip, the refinement and the fancy new DSG gearboxes...of course this is plenty for most people, but there is reason why I own a 993 and not one of them...

However, your 993 and the TT weigh about the same, but the TT is down at least 40bhp assuming it is standard. Did you start accelerating at the same time, were you in the best gear when you started accelerating, were your gearchanges as fast as they could be, did you completely floor the throttle, did you run to the red line in every gear.

Driver skill and timing being equal, I think you should had him!
