In case this hasn't been discussed here

That's a pretty horrendous photo, I dread to think how much plastic is floating about the oil tank. If it was mine I think I would be removing the tank for a clear out. Not an easy job but sooner or later it's going to block the outlet pipe.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago as it had split. The new one is a different design and seems to be a different type of plastic, maybe to stop this happening?

I can't believe the number of posters that didn't even know it was there.

The newer / longer design was originally for the 1996 turbo models. There is a technical bulletin referring to it.

Mine disappeared after a major engine rebuilt at my local Indy - now I know they were doing me a favour!

Likely they got it right by the time they'd reached the run-out models then, like mine, Sept '97, as the stock tube I have is as good as new, fully flexible plastic, non-perishable, no spring metal in it at all and no need to extend it. Works a treat every time, and very helpful feature.

+1

is this just on early models or on late ones ?
mines a april 97 built car c2 it looks ok
or is it also high mileage cars ?
mines 54k

Can't be just high mileage cars... mine's fine and the car has 153k on the clock[:)] ('96 model year C2 Vario coupé).

From the rennlist post it's all 993s Dave. That bulletin seems to infer that the pipe was revised from an ease of use perspective rather than because of a risk of failure. The new pipe is certainly longer and springs out when you take the filler cap off making it much easier to use.
My advice would be that if you are in any doubt at all replace it, otherwise check it every time you check the oil level.

They made it longer so it would clear the intercooler on turbos, then they used the longer one in all production

got it now & its fitted
it sticks out about 4 inches which is better[FONT=verdana, geneva"]it looks as good a condition as my old one ![FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]anyone want to buy my old one ?

Found mine was split near the top around half of the circumference - couldn't understand why the oil was dribbling onto the engine at first! Just turned it round through 180 degrees for now, but do you still have it and if so, how much?

BTW I love my new toy! [:)]
