Chaps

Further to my last thread on Chipwizards contact details, the question now arises that as am am going to get my early non vario 993 rs rep remapped, it seems just prior would be the time to change the stock oem albeit sports silencers exhaust for a new complete lightweight sports exhaust to save weight, up the bhp and most importantly work the most efficiently/greatest increase of the hp with the remap ?

I would presume one with the least baffles and smallest cats, but the old MOT still has to be passed and track day limits passed plus not sounding so loud that it attracts the law as they think your doing 90 due to the noise when in fact your doing 30 according to the limit !

From my research so far the Fabspeed system with interchangeable cat to straight pipes looks impressive, I know when I dscussed this with Steve Kings some while ago that on his Clubsport he has a Cargraphic system with 100 cell cats, but what of other systems such as Dansk, Akrapovic, Sharkworks et al ?

Can you also import direct from distributors around the world in the systems country of manufacter as the UK based suppliers seem to have huge mark ups on eg the US prices for Fabspeed ?

Your thoughts and experiences on all the above would be greatly appreciated.

Naughty UK suppliers trying to make a profit on items from abroad.

While items from the US may apear cheap, by the time you add carriage and import duty the margins are greatly diminished. And don't forget that, if there is a issue with the product, you may have to foot the bill to return it. Obviously the relative strength of the pound against the dollar will make things seem more attractive. As a rule of thumb I would consider the price shown in dollars is what you will pay in pounds after carriage and duty.

I have imported many car parts, and other goods, from the US but they have to be spectacularly good value, or not available in the UK at all, to make it worth while.

Also consider US cars often have subtle differences, over and above having the wheel on the wrong side, which can render a US part useless on a UK car.

I would be looking in Germany or at least the euro zone at the moment. Exchange rate is 12% cheaper at the moment with the Greece problem and some countries have slightly cheaper VAT, (19% in Germany for example), no import or tax to pay, just postage.
Whereas the $ has gone up in value against the £ by 7%. plus all the extras mentioned before.

As a non variorum your options are wide, even a tailored Hayward and Scott could be an option with sports cats "¦. not sure how the original Cup System worked, did it have 100 cell sports cats?
