Please see the modified section as I am looking for advice on the above.

Grateful for your thoughts and experiences.

Many thanks

I will be once having sorted a new lightweight breathing exhaust out, but the thread in modified is very short of replies !

Thought it would cause a huge response but ?

Likewise, was keeping an eye on your thread as I'm interested in doing exactly the same.

May be an idea to ask the question on the 993 forum at 911uk, where there is a huge following and I expect you'll get some views.

If it's any help - I had the car remapped by Wayne shortly after an engine rebuild - my 993 C4 was standard other than RS cams (the reasons for this are long and varied and to do mainly with one of the previous cams snapping) and RSR boxes from Gert. Very happy with the remap but will probably need to get it doen again as I've replaced the cats with 200 cell units - again from Gert.

In summary, regarding the exhaust, I'm happy with the 200 cell cats & RSR's from Gert, much louder that the standard but no real booming at speed on the motorway and it does certainly feel that the engine is breathing much more freely - marked difference after changing the cat.

If you're planning to get Wayne to do the remap it might be worth asking for his views on the exhaust - he has a lot of experience on 993's and must have seen lots of different combinations and their effect on performance.

Extract from my journal.....

Edit: can't get video links to work on here so direct link to my journal HERE

Exhaust Sound Update:

I've been meaning to update my journal on this subject since the car was remapped last year. One of the unexpected enhancements of the Wayne Schofield remap was the exhaust note. It was noticeable immediately on driving the car that it sounded much better so I have added a 3rd video below:

1. Stock OEM mufflers
2. OEM RSR Mufflers (nb OEM big oval exhaust tips added but they don't affect sound).
3. OEM RSR Mufflers and remap

1. Stock OEM mufflers

2. OEM RSR Mufflers (nb OEM big oval exhaust tips added but they don't affect sound).

3. OEM RSR Mufflers and remap

The exhaust sounds tinnier on film than it does in real life as cameras struggle to pick up the base notes but you get the idea. After the remap the exhaust pops and burbles a lot more freely. Its great in traffic in 2nd gear and awesome under load when accelerating :thumb:

Interesting comparison, thanks.

No probs with sound - played your 3 mp4s through the hifi system in the lounge and the bass notes are fine, instantly recognisable. So authentic it sounds identical to when I put the garage door up and listen to mine ticking over [:)] (Couldn't even tell what car you had when playing back through the laptop speakers !!).
See what you mean about the post-remap sound, has more of a rasp to it in the upper frequencies, a greater breadth of sound, is more pronounced, but loses none of the existing bassline.
This exhaust-sampling lark could get infectious, youknow, just like whisky tasting with all the notes [;)] Or something like that ...

True, Colin, and you're speaking to a Friend of the Classic Malts here, no less[:D], but I never tire of drinking in the sound of a beautifully bass-toned air-cooled [:D].
Pun intended [8|]

Surely-you mean "never tyre" to be punnier-but at least your pure malt doesn't risk getting diluted with water from a "kettle"[;)]

Nah, can't be 'aving contamination from American English as things needs to be kept clean haha - pure bass, pure malt, pure orthography[8D][;)]

Guys

Many thanks for all the responses and also the log which I had a listen too.

Which garage/supplier does
Gert work for please ?

There was a thread I had in the modified section where Gert was also mentioned with the name of who he works for, but strangely its been deleted I guess by the moderator.

My memory tells me its something like Carnwath or Carnwell but where ?

Any info gratefully received.

Cheers

Mike [:)]

His name is Gert Carnewal - it's his company - Carnewal.com - he is a very helpful guy in my experience (No affiliation!)
