993 Window removal

Hi,

I wonder can anyone help??

I am in the process of replacing the driver & passenger window glass (the drop glass) in my 993 and would like any tips on how to remove.

I have the door card and vapour guard off, but just wasn't sure on how to get the glass panel out.

I have scoured the net... but with no success.

My 993 repair manual lists instructions for every window apart from door drop glass...sods law!!

I would appreciate any help, tips or guidance....

Regards,
Ryan

I've never actually done this to the 993, but I've had the glass out of every other German car it seems.
My guess (and it is a guess) is that you squeeze your hands through whatever tiny slot there is in the door's inner skin and there'll be a 'U' shaped horizontal profile into which the glass sits. This will (possibly) have a rubber lining gripping the glass. The whole lot may be bolted to the winer mechanism with a couple of M6? bolts. Undo these and the glass and metal/rubber profile should slide out upwards through the outside of the indow frame. Be sure to remove the bottom window seals first.
By sure to vacuum out any bits of broken glass from the inside of the door... if this is why you are removing the glass.

This may be utter twaddle though.
Good luck.

Hi Ryan

I have done this on a 964---the glass sits in a U that attaches to a cantelever---which slides the window up and down---my word of warning here is that there are some very sensitive adjustments that you need to make putting everything back together--to ensure that the window closes and to make sure it doesn't catch on the way up---so don't take these too lightly. Unfortunately I did all this about 2 years ago and can't really remember the details--except it was prety well covered off in the 964 wokshop manual---I can send you the text from this, please let me know.

Steve

Cheers Mik!

Thanks for your advice.... I've have a crack at it today.

Just as a matter of interest.. incase you ever need to replace glass or someone you know does (hopefully not)

I priced around before buying and found interesting price differences:

New glass (each + vat + shipping = £50 approx to N.I.)

Design 911 £226
Jasmine £203
2nd hand from Porscha part £ 90

Checked out a place locally called National Windscreens who had 2 in stock... no cheap replacement.. oh no proper Original Sekurit

£85 + vat both new & original for £199.75

Best Regards,
Ryan
