Hi Chaps, I have seen a couple of standard C2 around with Factory 3.8 engines from NEW, they were apparently factory options. Can you please tell me:

1. Factory Code.
2. Were they RS engines and numbered same
3. Cup Spec without Varioram (very doubtful I know)
4. If none above what spec and BHP
5. Any other Factory upgrade engines, 3.6/3.8 and which Factory Codes

Thanks .....

I believe the 3.8 code was X51. The engine number may well have an "S" appended to it. If it was an early car it will be non-varioram (285bhp with X51) whereas all RSs are varioram (300bhp).

Hi Des,

Not to my knowledge: those were standard 272bhp 3.6 machines and remained so from the factory. Having said that, Colin Belton over at Ninemeister can achieve some amazing results with those early 993 pre-varioram engines.

Pick his brain if you can!

Best regards,

Bert

Des, X51 as above is spot on, nothing available on the 3.6, as you know, possible to get to 300bhp with usual chip/induction, any more power costs a lot of £££.

If you are interested in one of these drive one, the gearing is not as per the RS, so a bit of waste of £££ for original purchaser IMHO etc....

If you put RS gearing on a regular 3.6 it would drive better than one of these X51 3.8 cars.

Des,

Colin has achieved some pretty amazing results on my non vario 3.6, rather than quote HP which varies wildly between different dyno's (min 330 - max 350) it did achieve sub 5s 0-60 on an AX 22 data logger as recorder by Porsche & 911 mag at Elvington and it is pretty quick on the track[:D]

As Paul say's it was not cheap but worth every penny. Happy to answer any q's if you ping me a mail. I also have a set of RS barrell's and pistons to take the engine up to 3.8 (you are aware it is nota actually 3.8 nearer 3.7 !

Cheers

John
