993RS build number

Hi guys

How do you find out what build number your RS is?

I can provide the chassis number if any one can help out.

ALso has anyone ever seen an RS with a club sport wing pack pictured in a wind tunnel before? if so would love to see the photo.

cheers Phil

I may be confused but I think the chassis number denotes build number..

993 RS had a seperate chassis code than regular 993 and cup cars.....RS & clubsport numbers are mixed together rather than seperately as on the 964 clubsport.

1995 cars wp0zzz99zss390010 for example

1996 cars have zts to denote the different build year.

Understand 1014 cars built over '95-96 period,,,,,my car is a zss ('95) and 390188
therefore I assumed it was the 188th car built.

Hi Paul,
Interesting, my car is a "zts" chassis number but first registered 21/06/1995

Crikey, that throws a spanner in the works John. [8|]

I went to find my cars paper work to see if I was losing it and if my car was zss or zts.

I have the German certificate of conformity and additional paperwork from both Austria and UK, definitely zss as is the physical chassis number on the car.

How spooky is this,,,,on all the paperwork I have my car was first registered on 21/06/1995..........I couldn't believe it [:D]

What build number is yours??

Hopefully either Mr Howells or Mclean will be able to shed some light on the zss, zts year classification.

Guys, please see the attatched link ( I just found!)

http://p-car.com/vin.html

Look under 1995 and for RS, my 188 number comes under ZSS

This goes up to number 207,,,,then after that there appear to be some ZTS numbers.

I have to say I never knew they used ZSS and ZTS for the same year, but the link appears to clarify the numbering at least.

This is not the first time I have looked into RS build details and run into confusion and less than a definitive conclusion [8|]

Hi Paul,
Mine is zts with chassis no ending 390133 and definately first registered 21/06/1995.

Vic, number on back shelf is bodyshell code.....not as relevent as chassis VIN number as in not recorded in certificate of conformity or used by DVLA.. No doubt Stuttgart cn tie up body shell with chassis numbers.

Those without CS or cup cars have probably never seen it.

Yes Vic, what a very underhand thing to say , here I am now with only a couple of days left till Xmas, having to pull all my rear carpets out to try and find some ficticious number you have invented[:D][:D]

Happy Xmas everyone!!!!

you anoraks!!!!!
All CS version are ss,which denotes 94/95 build.I have not seen a CS yet with a ts number.(not to say there is not one about)
Most standard versions are TS,95 /96 except for the 1 red rhd car, that was used as the factory R&D car for spoiler development etc, which is a 94 SS car and rhd,is it not Steve P.
Most clubs were made in late 94.
The rear shell number is for factory ref,but a good way to check the shell is correct. shell id number, should also match the dash shell number.
You boys all have a great xmas, dont eat to many pies as it will shorely slow your car down next season.
Just think of those extra KG at crimbo lunch.
Still waiting for xmas present, its going to be late, but in time for oulton i fear!!
Have a good one
Paul.

Paul thanks for the response, excuse me for still being confused...[]

I understood there were approx 107 clubsports made over '95-96, I got this info from Thomas Schmidt who said it was hard to tell as the chassis number allocation didn't help.

Now while SS makes sense for CS cars, the numbers don't add up.

That 993 chassis Vin site has

'95 RS chassis numbers with SS from 061 to 207

'96 RS chassis numbers with SS from 208 to 999

Now adding that up it comes to 146 + 791 = 937 SS cars

If there were 937 SS chassis clubsport cars, I am sure I would have had an easier time trying to find one [;)]

Happy Christmas Guys, look forward to catching up on track in '07 [:D]

JP there is definitely one of these numbers just under the 3 rd tread of ur house stairs quick go and check it
Paul ,Paul John and everyone enjoy the Holiday and look fwd to seeing u all in 2007 .............off for a spot of early Birthday lumch !!Liquid!

Phil the build number is the production number, if you contact Phil Clark with your VIN number he has a contact at the
Zuffenhausen factory called Freundlichen Gruben who will research your RS and find your production number,
my 993 rs has a production number of 1458590.
phil clarke contact details are ( philclarktpc300@hotmail.com )

Paul cars with SS are deff 94/95 cars,TS are deff 95/96 cars, there are even some VS around 96/97.
Dont believe the vin site any way, despite what tom says, most of the chassis numbers 390 for rs if its SS 390 or TS 390 or SV390, run reasonably accuratly.
If ever in doubt about a car, check under the knee pad by the radio opening for the production number, which should match the rear shelf number on clubsport or standard version.
I can check numbers for club members, but not dealers. These numbers only need checking if you suspect a shell change,or 2 halfs welded together etc .These later rs are quite easy to prove they are genuine rs or not.
The factory contact only needs to be used as almost last resort, the production number is much more useful for the earlier cars. The factory do get a little tired of folks just checking numbers to say if it is or is not. When the new Museum is in place,we hope as a club to have a couple of nominated people to be able to just pick up the phone and speak to the archives etc to check history, matching numbers etc.
Paul,if you think the rs is confusing, the gt2 is complicated beyond belief.Plenty of ex racers getting road car id etc
May be a factory visit,Museum and new motorsport facility at weisach could be on the cards ,with a tour of the archive etc.And of course stop on the way back for the ring or spa!
What about it in 2008.
