993Targa - sun roof windnoise

I've recently bought a 1996 Targa and it has an unnacceptable amount of wind noise. I realise that it needs a specialist to sort it out and wondered if anyone has found someone who really knows how to set the sun roof up?

You need to let us know where you live in the country so we can advise. IF you bought the car from the trade then they should sort it out FOC. Normally the windnoise is due simply to the targa roof being lower than the surrounding area. The simple fix, there are a number of hexagonal nuts within the targa roof in and about the runners that lift the roof up to get rid of the noise. They are at the front near the wind spoiler and at the point where the roof is fully open basically you can loosen them and push the roof up by hand.

Tognola in Datchet (near Windsor) have sorted my problems and replaced one of the seals which caused wind noise, don't know if that's any help geographically ?

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm in Shropshire but prepared to travel to get the job sorted by an expert. I did buy it from the trade but after 3 weeks of trying they haven't improved it. I've now got problems with the spoiler section not closing properly and it's turning into a bit of a nightmare.

Hi Patrick I had a 993 Targa for a number of years, and have some experience with wind noise fixing. There is a good write up available at: http://www.pcarworkshop.com/index.php/993_-_Targa_Roof_Operation_Outline and a number of Porsche technical bulletins here related to Targa noise: http://www.pcarworkshop.com/index.php/993_-_TSBs%2C_Parts_Guides Even if you get a specialist to fix it, there's no harm in learning how it works.. Hope you sort out your problems - it's worth it! ta TOm

Hi Tom Didn't know about that page. Very helpful I have PDF's of Water ingress and wind noise fixes/help, think from the workshop manual Have changed most seals myself except the front one which was done by Greg at Tognloa, Very good with the roof, but scary seeing how you have to change the front main seal!
