993TT/C4S brake discs

How do the two-part brake discs for the 993TT/993C4S work? When it comes to disc renewal time can you just get the disc part of the assembly thereby retaining the 'top hat' part? If so is there a significant cost saving and is the replacement of the disc a simple unbolting and bolting of the disc with no special tools or balancing procedures required?

I'm looking to upgrade my front brakes to the big blacks off the 928 GTS (same as big reds but black and alot cheaper) and in the kit i've been looking at there is the option of an alloy central top hat that uses the 993TT disc so you retain the alloy top hat part when you renew the discs. The advantage (apart from looking the dog's danglies as it can be anodised in any colour) is the whole disc assembly is lighter. I've looked in the 993 PET and can't seem to see the part numbers for the two component parts of that assemby. The 928 GTS disc is a one-piece casting, but the alloy top hat part of the kit is intended for the 944T so has the correct offsets.

Thanks.

Thanks Maurice, I'll take another look at the column later tonight - I did read it as i'm taking a big interest in all things brake related at the moment (and I always keep my eye on anything to do with the 993 as it will be my next Porsche when i've finished with my 944T) but my recollection is that the column described the installation of the upgrade kit i.e. a replacement of the previous disc with the whole TT disc assembly. My worry is that the process to attach the disc to the top hat might require either some special tools or some balancing proceedure which is not feasible or possible for the DIY'er. Although the asthetic appearance and weight saving of the set up appeals they do not appeal enough if it is going to cause me great difficulty or extra expense when it comes round disc replacement time. If that is the case i'll stick with the 928GTS one-peice cast disc.
