hi all.

I'm new to the forum & have owned my c2 for 6 years, firstly, how useful is this site? Can't believe I've never known its been here! Right, here's one for the experts! I have an opportunity to purchase some 911 turbo alloys. The fronts are fine but the backs are different, my car has 265/35/18's and the ones on the new rims are 295/35/18's, does anyone know if they will fit? It might sound dumb but I have no idea, the new rims tyres are knackered, I'm assuming mine won't fit so I'll need new ones... Is this the case? Finally, I've always bought y rated tyres as I was told by a pal I had too for valid insurance. I don't track the car or anything, is this still the case? Thanks in advance,

mike

Welcome Mike!!

The rears won't fit, I'm afraid. You can check the wheel offsets in this pdf: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/legacy/clientftp/Register/996/faq_tyres_porsche_feb_2011.pdf

If you go to www.1010tires.com there is an offset calculator, and you can enter the widths and offsets, and it works out what will happen.

hi rich,

thanks for the welcome & info, gutted as they would have looked soooooo beautiful... I don't suppose you know if I need the y rated tyres if I stick with my tired old alloys?

thanks again,

mike

You can see on that pdf that all the Porsche recommended tyres are Z rated for speed. I would suggest sticking with that if you want to avoid an argument with an insurance company in the event of the worst. I would also stick to the same load rating. Some tyres, like the Falken 452, aren't high enough. If you look at the Porsche N rated tyres on tyre sites like Camskill, they show the load and speed ratings for each.

Shouldn't he check the size of the rim first? If it's the winter rim from the turbo it's an 10" and that will fit fine. (with a 285 tyre)

Very true. I was assuming that they were the standard 11" Turbo wheels with ET45 offset. The 10J ET65 wheels would be fine.
