Well folks, I am new to your forum but just wanted to briefly say how dead chuffed I am with my new 996 Coupe. I had never driven a 996 before. What a fantastic car ! So smooth with a real linear power delivery with what seems to be perfectly chosen ratios and delightful feedback from the steering. Really looking forward to putting some miles on it this summer !
Regards, Nick.

Hi Nick
Welcome to the 996 section, they are great cars and represent excellent value for money at the moment.
C2 also have the best steering fell IMHO
Enjoy

Good man - 996 normally C2, 3.4 - lovely drive, great investment, particularly as the next 991 revisions are all going turbo - another dynamic, not just air cooled rules in future, but normally aspirated vs turbo! [:D]

You can't go wrong! Enjoy!

wellcome nick,

they are brilliant cars i bought my first 911 a few months ago and makes me smile every day,
mine is also the 3.4l . Just booked in to have the gunto hack done on mine can't wait.

enjoy

Thanks for the warm welcomes !
One question if I may....when stationary and I turn off the A/C, the engine idle drops but becomes slightly smoother and a higher idle when switching back on. Is this normal do you think ? I thought if anything should be the other way around ? Cheers, Nick.

I think that's normal; the engine needs to idle faster to power the AC compressor (which is what's causing the roughness, I think).

Welcome to the club of happy 996-driving campers.

Yep, I agree. Air con off, less demand on engine revs - In real terms 2-3 mpg. The cost of being cool I fear!

Great choice - I bought my manual '98 3.4 C2 4 weeks ago & i'm loving it thus far. The early '98 cars with the cable throttle are the lightest & most responsive & thus guaranteed to follow the meteoric price rises of all the air-cooled cars, obviously ! [;)][;)][:D]

On the subject of the A/C & idle speed, mine does exactly the same as yours, so seems to be a case of "they all do that, sir".

Enjoy your new toy!

This is for the 3.4 with mechanical throttle, which has an idle control valve. On later cars the idle is regulated by the electronic throttle.
