996 Baby Car Seat

Hi,

We have recently had a customer in our store who has told us that he has found it virtually impossible to find a car seat for his 996 911 Carrera. Apparantly he had even tried Porsches own car seat which was a poor fit. After trying most of the car seats we have in our shop we found one that did fit (for 9-18kg).

I was wondering if this is a common problem for 996 owners and if the Carrera's seats are the same as other 996 variants?

Regards,

Rob

I have the Porsche Junior ISOFIX car seat and it fits perfectly front or rear in my 2003 996. It uses seat belt fixings rather than ISOFIX, as the 996 is not available with ISOFIX. When in the front seat it 'clips' into a seatbelt type buckle to de-activate the front passenger airbag (another optional extra for your 996!)

The main issue with baby car seats in the rear is the fact that the seat belt clip is FIXED to the transission tunnel, so a lot of babyseat fixings are shallow and will pull the buckle sideways causing strain on the seatbelt mechanism.

We also have a Bebeconfort Iséos TT and it will not fit properly because of the seatbelt shallow fixings.

Thought the Iseos fitted, from what I'd heard. I was about to try fitting one to mine. However I've also heard that the M&P Pro-tec fits in the rears.

Thought the Iseos fitted, from what I'd heard. I was about to try fitting one to mine. However I've also heard that the M&P Pro-tec fits in the rears.

Physically it fits, but it is not held firmly in place by the seatbelt. I'm sure it wouldn't go anywhere, but I didn't fancy it and my son flapping around in the cabin.

I've had no problem with the M&P Pro-Tec. I've got two installed and they are held very firmly. They don't work like other seats in that the belt goes over the top and round the front which means it's not affected by the fixed latch on the transmission tunnel.

I've found that it's best to remove the Porsche bottom seat cushions to gain a little head room and you need to use a seat protector (I also used some extra cardboard) to protect seat backs as the Pro-tecs have some edges that will dent the leather.

That's great, thanks. I'll go and have a try putting a Pro-tec in, instead.

BTW that's a great pair you've got there! Is the grin from Dad's driving I wonder?

Cheers
Tim
