996 Back Boxes C4S

Hi All, help required please.

My 996 C4S requires some new back boxes as they have started to split and I have a small gas leak. However, I am unsure as to what to replace them with? I think after market, but there is so much choice. Having done my own research DesignTech by Design 911 seem very reasonable. I have read some poor stories about Dansk, re build quality. I have read that Milltek Cup back boxes will make my car sound like a 911 should, and to be honest that is appealing especially to my 7 year old, but will it make my ears bleed? All help welcome. The car does not have a switchable sports exhaust. Thanks Mark

Milltek cup boxes are extremely loud. Best to avoid IMHO.

I like Dansk and think their reputation us probably a little outdated. We’ve fitted many sets. We especially like the PSE copy, the sports sound I think it’s called.

Designtek we haven’t fitted much. We see the valvetronic boxes often and they are a bit noisy when ‘on’.

The factory PSE is awesome and available as retrofit kit - this is 2.2k+v but well worth it!

I have Dansk standard silencers on my car. They were on it when I bought but from the history I can see they were fitted 2.5 years a go. They still look in good condition and I like the sound.

I have a Miltek system on mine, and it sounds fantastic. I don't think it's too loud, but, it does sound like a proper car, with them.
They were put on by RPM Technik for the sale, prior to my purchase. They advised that they are more durable boxes than the PSE that was factory fitted and although they aren't switchable, I'm pleased, as id never turn it off anyway, lol
It's always a personal choice really

*edit* i dont think they'll make your ears bleed. I dont think any exhaust really does unless you're sat behind it. I had to do a decibel test for a friends S6 and aftermarket boxes in the week, and the car sounds fantastic. But, being the one with the db meter behind it, was a little intense, lol, but once stood back up, it was all normal

I have Milteks 100s on a Turbo S. they replaced the original Porsche system which shows how they can last (15 years). I love them, well behaved when idling and delightful when pushed #nobleeding If you are based nearby you’re very welcome to come and listen

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread - it has helped me make my mind up to go for a new Milltek system... I'm going to put an order in tonight!

Hi Tim, glad the thread helped. If you do fit the Milltek system would really like to know your thoughts. Kind Regards Mark

I had my rusty and split O/E switchable sports exhaust boxes replaced with Dansk boxes three years ago at Wrightune in Wallingford, Oxon. They sound great and work using the original dashboard switch. No complaints and much cheaper than Porsche Centre fitting the very expensive genuine Porsche replacements.

My decision to go for Dansk was based on advice from the owner of JAZ Porsche Specialists, St Albans at the 996 service seminar held at PCGB HQ in Moreton-in Marsh.
