996 Buying Advice Please

Hi All,

After just selling my 993 today, I am on the look out for an early 996 as my budget will stretch to £35k and have the following questions:

- I have definately decided on sports seats and the hi fi pack but with PCM sat/nav...it will be PCM1 right?...is this worth having?..I would certainly widen the pool of available cars if I don't go for PCM. I've heard it's not very good anyway and you can't get update discs for it easily.

- If the car already has a Porsche approved warranty, do I still really need to do a Porsche PPI?....If anything goes wrong it's covered anyway is my reasoning.

- When the ad says hi-fi pack, there is only 1 type isn't there? as in the chunky oval shaped speakers in the doors as a main visual clue.

- How much is the boot space reduced with a C4??...marginal or 50% less??
Your answers and wisdon is greatly appreciated.

Hasan....what is the difference between sports and ordinary seats?.......Does anyone have any pics, as I've only noticed a distinction between ruffled/smooth leather.....maybe Im just too unobservant!

Sports seats have wings as shown by the red circle

PPI worthwhile in case in has been crashed? I assume a repaired car could still obtain a warranty. You'd want to know this, and perhaps also the condition of non-warrantable items such as discs, brakes, clutch, etc.
Think all the 996 range had the 'hi-fi pack', i.e amp and 10 speakers (window, front and rears). I think it was the Boxster that had a base fit of only the two window speakers, with the doors and amp as an option.
As to the sports seats, have you sat in them compared with the comfort ones? I'm not sure they would be my choice and I'm not particularly broad across the shoulders (for the record have them in the 996, don't in the Boxster).

Hi Paul,

Yes, I agree a PPI will be a must for the reasons you've stated above.

Hi Fi pack was definately not a standard option as many 996's I have seen so far have door bins with empty holes wherees on others you have the oval shaped speakers. (Which do have it)
Hi fi pack and sports seats are very attractive to buyers come resale time and I will definately want them.
Some I have seen online don't even have a sun roof!....I have ruled out a cab now but you need a sunroof when the British sun decides to shine [:)]

When the ad says hi-fi pack, there is only 1 type isn't there? as in the chunky oval shaped speakers in the doors as a main visual clue.

Assume Hi-fi pack means Sound Package. On my 02C2, the sound pack was an option.
The std system had only 4 speakers, two in the rear panels, two broadband on the dash and two cubby holes in the doors!
Sound pack consists of: 6 channel amp mounted in the front luggage compartment . The front broadband speakers on the dash top become tweeters/mid range and the 2 additional ones in the door are 70W bass. The two in the rear panels remain same. 6 separate speaker units altogether; 10 if you count all the tweeters etc as separate speakers.

How much is the boot space reduced with a C4??...marginal or 50% less??

I think the boot space is reduced from 130 litres for the C2 to100 litres for the C4.
