996 C2 - C4s conversion

I have a 2002 carrera 2, which i want to convert into a C4s lookalike.
I have found some web sites who can do the conversion but they seem a bit pricey!

Does anyone know if the C4s/Turbo front bumper fits straight on or do i need a fixing kit?
Has anyone changed there rear bumper for a C4s/Turbo bumper? What do i need to do? What modifications do i need to do to the bumper so it fits?
Cheers

interesting. given that the 996 c4s is wide body, does this mean that you take a section out of the bumper to fit the narrower body? might end up looking like this

Seriously though, the front wings are the same on C2/C4 and C4S, so there is a good chance that the front PU would fit. The rear is another thing - different rear wings, liners, rear panel, engine cover, PU etc. Probably cheaper to trade it in, given that what you would end up is what you say - a C4S lookalike - and probably worth less than the original car IMHO.

i have never heard of an option other than the truly pricey....as richard says much better to change for a "real"4s if thats what you want, although i found the ride a bit too firm for everyday use.....

The ride is pure perfection[;)].

Hi Tirfor,

I have seen two C2 with the conversion in the flesh during my search. However you had better sit down as if I remember correctly it was circa £16,000 for one of them and the other was £8,000 for the conversion alone.

Also a well established Porsche specialist had a C4 with a full turbo body conversion which cost £32,000 just for the conversion. Not sure what why the owner did that as they could have got a proper one for that total combined costing of the car and conversion.

There is also the fact these conversions de-value the car over stock. Personally never been a fan of changing a model to something it is not. There are some nice Y02 996 C4S examples around mid to late £30k.

Just my 2 pence.

Regards Alan

I agree that an original is better and i wouldn't want to spend anywhere near the prices that have been quoted, why spend that much when you could buy an original?

I dont want to go for the full identical look, just the bumpers, skirts and replica wheels as i just like the way they look.

I was looking at the following site:

http://www.design911.co.uk/index.htm?Region=UK

They seemed to have managed to fit a C4s bumper onto a narrow body, wonder how?

But i have seen secondhand bumpers going for a lot less, so i thought get them painted myself and then fit them.

Anyone with ideas on how they done it?

Hi Tirfor,

Design911 buy in parts which are GRP and not original porsche, which are just imitation bumpers to look C4S 'esque' !! They are made for narrow bodied 996's.
I think many many people would avoid a converted car like that and I call them 'Frankenstein' cars!

Just my opinion....good luck

Thanks for that Richard, i'll try to get in touch with him to get some advise.

Any mods that i do, i intend to keep the original parts so i can sell it as a non 'Frankenstein' car[:)] if need be.

Don't do it.

IMO it will be perceived with the same stigma as a 'damaged/repaired' vehicle.

Keep your car original and buy the 'real thing'.
