Hi,
I have a 996 C2 Tiptronic which has a whining noise coming from the rear when under load and has been diagnosed as having either a problem with the rear main shaft bearing or the crown wheel and pinion.
I have been quoted between £1 & £3k to get it done but with no commitment to the end cost but the specialist dealer I bought the car from in the Midlands have kindly enough agreed to go halves on the cost.
Should I go ahead with this or should I source a recon/used Tiptronic Box/Diff at, potentially, a lower cost?
Has anyone had experience of this kind of rebuild in terms of cost and quality?
Cheers,
Rob
