996 c4 wanted

I'm looking for a 996 C4 tip coupe, facelift model (3.6lt, 2001 year or newer) with (hopefully) less than 60k miles and excellent service history. If anyone knows of one for sale, please forward me details.

(I'm not interested in any other spec/configuration.)

I just had a look at car that fits my requirements. It's got a good spec and is in good cosmetic condition, with low owners and low miles.

However, there is no record of it being serviced between 39,000 miles in 2007 and 49,000 miles in 2013. While a service between these mileages wasn't due, should it not have been serviced on a time basis? Need I worry about this?!

(The MOT certificates back up a general and slow increase in mileage over that period, so I'm not suspicious of that element.)

If the car passes an independent inspection, am I okay to ignore this 7 year service gap, or will it come back to haunt me when I try to sell the car in a few years time?

Your thoughts please!

Yes, it should have annual services. If it had been lightly used during that time it wouldn't worry me too much about he car itself - it would be much worse if it had been sat for 7 years doing nothing. That said, it will put off potential buyers in the future. It should reflect in the asking price, and will affect your sale price and number of potential buyers in the future. Depends on how long you plan on keeping it too. If you keep it for a good number of years and maintain it properly it will tend to negate the previous history.

I agree with Richard. There are plenty of other cars on the market, and that number will increase over the coming months (and the price should drop too)

Why the strict necessity for a C4? I owned one, relatively heavy/numb steering, less boot space, understeer. I'd rather have a regular Carrera.

Its for my wife to use a daily car, and over the winter we get a fair amount of rain/frost/snow etc, so 4 wheel drive gives an added bit of safety and confidence. If I was buying for me, for use as a fair weather weekend toy, it would be a different matter.

It's harder than you might imagine to find a car in my preferred spec. Plenty of convertibles advertised at the moment, as well as lots of manual cars and lots with over 80,000 miles. But a hard topped C4 tip with lower miles appears to be a rare beast right now.

Didn't you have one of these Ewan? I didn't think you got on with it that well, with lots of replacement bits.
You should let her have one of your spare Masers!

Half right, David. I did have one that I used as my daily car, but decided I wanted something bigger so ended up with the QP. Alison and I are both big fans of this car, so quite keen to get another - if I can find the right one. It might be easier for me to go for a C4S, as there are lots of those for sale. But its an extra £5k (approximately) for stuff we don't want/need (i.e. bigger rear arches, bigger front apron, bigger brakes.) We both prefer the more delicate look of the non-turbo bodied model.

Looks a bit too cheap though?
