996 C4 wheels on 964 ?

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Carrera 4 wheels off a 996 will fit on a (1989) 964 Carrera 4 ?

Thanks for any help [:)]

Will,

They will almost certainly be the wrong offset (ET). The standard 964 wheels had an offset of 52.3mm - the 996 wheels will depend on what model 996 they came from - but they won't be 52.3!! You will almost certainly have to use spacers to remedy the offset difference but you need to know exactly the offset of the wheels before you can decide the size of the spacers.

You'll also need to know the width of the wheels - the 996 wheels will be considerably wider than the standard 964 wheels. The chances are the fronts will be OK but the rears may be tight on a narrow bodied 964 if they are 10Js. The offsets are REALLY important when you get to these sizes bevause of the danger of fouling the oil pipe on the inside of the right rear wheel.

17" (or greater) wheels may give you a contact problem with the chassis on full lock at the front too. This can be overcome with a spacer though (or a slightly larger steering stop).

I'll bet you were hoping for "Yes" weren't you???

Regards

Dave
