996 C4S exhaust question

As a recent new owner and member, I am delighted with my 996 C4S. With hindsight maybe I should have gone for one with sports exhaust, but I was happy with colour combo of seal gray with black leather and manual gearbox, so paid my money. This is probably a familiar question but would like a little more noise from the exhaust without spending a fortune. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

There is a popular modification called the Gundo Hack - if you google the phrase you will see the bypass style modification. This mimics the PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust).

Most specialists will perform the modification at fairly reasonable rates.

I guess the Gundo hack will depend on the condition of your rear boxes but I have just put a Dansk 300S on mine & more than happy with it & the car does appear to be more responsive (just like it says on the tin)

www.type-911.co.uk doing it for £635 including delivery

I have just had a Dansk Sport exhaust fitted today, it's not loud but it gives a nice deep richer sound than the original.
Wasn't a bad price either at £1,100 fitted.
Very pleased with the result.

As I've posted in another thread I fitted a pair of Dansk OEM style Sport Silencers to my 2002 C4S, they turned out to be far too quiet, not much difference to the standard silencers they replaced so I took them back off and modified them with a Gundo hack, a 2" bypass between the capped off second chamber directly to the exit pipe.

Sounds great, far better than the standard OEM boxes or the Dansk Sports OEM. Starts up with a little more noise than before but as the revs drop back it quietens down nicely, sounds really good when pulling away but not antisocial. No drone on the motorway, sounds pretty normal in the cabin at a steady throttle but makes a lovely noise when you open it up.

I cut the silencers up myself and fabricated the bypass pipes from a couple of stainless steel 45degree bends, £20 off Amazon. Paid £50 to a friend to weld them in place. All up £70 and an hours work, is that cheap enough an option?

So 2 votes for Dansk and 2 for Gundo hack, interesting! Thanks Ian for the comprehensive and cheap response, although I am useless at doing stuff myself, so will ask the local garage I will be using. Thanks again for quick responses.
