996 C4s - Pre Purchase Inspection - HELP REQUIRED

Hi Forum,

I need a pre-purchase inspection completed for a car sitting at a dealer in Staffordshire ST15.

Can anyone advise - I wanted Peter Morgan to do it as his work has been much lauded, however his team have stated they are unwilling to travel beyond Birmingham, which is fair enough but a real shame from my perspective.

As a result, I need someone to make a recommendation. I recently sold my 981 Cayman and am looking for a decent 911 that will serve me well for years to come and pending the inspection I believe I have found - please help!

:)

Whom have you used to maintain and service your Cayman? are they not able to perform an inspection for you?
Who will you be using to maintain your 996? the same person should be able to provide an inspection ?

Failing that, can the car be taken to the independent inspectors?

Thanks for the response Paul.

I didnt need anyone from an independent perspective to maintain the 981 as it was under warranty (wonderful ownership experience - lovely motorcar). I have found a relatively low mileage 996 to get me in to 911 ownership. I was looking to utilise Jaz Porsche as they are near my location. The location of the 996 C4s is proving more troublesome for the inspection to take place but there simply must be a way to get this done for my peace of mind, especially around the IMS/RMS and any other issues that may emerge (brake disc health, clutch wear, bore scoring etc...). With that in mind, taking the car to an inspector may be the best way? Rather than expecting the inspector to go to the car.

Why not use the nearest OPC for an inspection see how the car comes out.
Can not recommend Jaz in St Albans enough one of the best.

Use the nearest OPC at a cost of around £200ish its well worth it! Had mine done at one took 21/2 hours with discussion on the findings by the 2 mechanics that did it when completed. [:D]

Just be aware that no inspection will be able to help you discover the IMS issue, nor clutch wear (unless it's actually slipping) nor bore scoring (unless you pay extra for a boroscope)

Have them take the car to your nearest Porsche specialist for an inspection at your cost and have them do a bore scope check, there check would be much better than an OPC 111 point check. Also see whether the sellers warranty will cover the IMS/bore scoring in writing. If they wont do it then run.

Thank you Porkers. I am going to engage with Autofarm and get the whole thing gone over in as much depth as possible.

Like anything, nothing is completely certain so let us see how it comes out in the wash. Really useful hearing the 111 point check re: OPC and the relative value in getting this done. There is a technician at Porsche Centre East London called David. He is extremely useful, knowledgeable and above all helpful with these vehicles. I will pay him a visit and discuss with him any issues or concerns and what to be weary of prior to completing on the car. I will post here what comes of the purchase.

Thanks again guys.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to update you with regard to my activities over the last few days.

I used Jasmine Porsche in the end! Had Brian come down and do the inspection which seemed thorough and kept me involved whilst I waited for it to be completed. Loving all things oily and petrol based, I couldn't help getting as involved as much as possible, probably to Brian's annoyance! The car emerged from his 200 point inspection with only a major service and corroded rear brake discs which were factored in to the sale price. I am now the proud owner of a 39k miles fully OPC Service History 996 C4s. I am the third owner which for a 2004MY car is not bad at all.

Definitely recommend Jasmine Porsche to you all. They seem to have a large parts catalogue as well!

Apologies in advance for any odd or annoying posts going forward.

Thanks.

Mani
