996 cab roof problem

Hello, I have a problem with my 996 cab roof. I met up with R2 club night to welcome our German friends over to Bonny Scotland, NC500. When parked the roof would not lock so windows would not close. I have an idea what I need however I need confirmation from the more experienced club members. Thank you, Kevin.

Hello - I never had any issues when I had a cabriolet so I can't advise unfortunatly. However I did read a number of posts over on the 911UK.com forum regarding cab issues. Might be worth having a search and post the question over there. Good luck!

I’ve had this problem. If the roof hooks when closing then unhooks before it’s latched then it’s likely to be the same problem.

where the hook goes into the windscreen frame there is a plastic cover over the hook. If this is split or cracked it stops the micro switch confirming it’s closed so it un latches.

if you press the plastic as it closes it should stay closed as the micro switch will then work and windows will close etc

you can buy a new plastic cover but I chose to put tape round it to keep it tight to the hook. Been like that for 5 years now with no problem.

good luck
Matt

Take a look for a black "cap" on the hook at the very front of the top that fits into the latch. If this part is damaged or missing, the switch does not "sense" that the top is in the closed position ready to be latched.
Sometimes these get lost. Hope this helps

Well it’s fixed, the plastic hook is the culprit, the very end of it broke off and was not pushing on the switch. I ordered a new one £15 delivered. Good luck if you have to fit one yourselves. On the plus side I found out with all the trolling the sites that if you push up the switch at the top of the screen you can put the rear windows up, it makes a difference. Only taken a years topless driving to find that one.
Cheers for your response, Kevin.
