996 CD multi-changer

I have a 996 C4S with a luggage compartment mounted CD multi-changer. This works well except for the CD1 slot which does not register. Does anyone know why this might be and what the solution is? I am hoping that it is the CD carrier rather than the whole unit!

Have you tried different CD's in that slot? I only suggest it as mine sometimes doesn't recognise certain CD's no matter what slot they are in. Something about the CD I think. I've now replaced the changer with a bluetooth phone device anyway though.

i had a cd changer and disc 1 often would not load - i think it is a defect which develops over time

fitted the PCCM+ last year and have not looked back

Good afternoon,

Just picking up on your comment, what Bluetooth connector do you use please and would you recommend it?

many thanks,
Tim

Hi Julian,

Thank you very much. I have just gone in and bought one thank you.

I must admit I have been wavering as to whether to go for the new PCM Plus or keep the car original (I have had my 996 for 15+ years so a bit of a sentimental attachment to it...).

Thanks again,
Tim

Hi Tim,

No problem, hope it works for you as well (no liability here....)! For the cost I think it's worth the risk.
Like you I wanted to keep some semblance of originality - I like the "clean" look. I have upgraded my speakers front and rear to Alpine units and that does make a difference. I think the Continental head unit would be the next stage for me - but it all works at the moment!

Regards
Julian

Thanks for all your comments. I tried a different disc in Slot 1, but I am afraid that didn't make any difference. I don't want to change to PCM+ for reasons of originality so I think I may just have to accept that this is a fault and content myself with 5 discs!

Although not in my 996, I use an FM transmitter in another of my older cars and it’s surprisingly good, especially at the price point.

However, if you’re using with an iPhone there has (until the last few days) been a very annoying problem.

For best sound quality and usability, it’s best to set your iPhone to max volume, then adjust the volume in your car via the stereo.

In Principle this is great, but in practice you hit a problem as Apple have implemented a headphone volume safety limit. So after about half an hour you think you‘ve lost connection, but what’s actually happened is that your phone has turned the volume down. And up to a few days ago there was no way to disable this ‘feature’.

However, under the latest version (14.4), you can now go into your Bluetooth connections and categorise what they are - previously everything was seen as a headphone - but now you can tag it as a car stereo, or a speaker, etc, and in doing so, bypass the volume reduction safety measure.

Hope that helps

Thanks Darren. That's interesting - I haven't had an issue with Apple "silencing" my playing, so far. My last connector didn't need to have the volume increased, but this one does!
The need to put the phone to a high volume level isn't limited to the Bluetooth devices, I have a cable aux connection in my Golf and that needs the phone volume turning right up.
Regards
Julian
