996 clear headlight upgrade

Hi all
Please can anyone advise, I am in the process of upgrading my 1998 996 lights from the original amber units to the clear units. I have done the rear lights and side repeaters, my headlights are standard light but they have washers and the light can be adjusted from within the car so they have the inbuilt motors, can anyone confirm whether the Boxster units are compatible and if the motors can be relocated to the new units.
Thanks
Aaron

It is possible (I've done it) but its not easy and you can very easily break the plastic bracket that holds the motor into the light (I did and had to transfer one out of the old light). Its also not very obvious how to go about it and it took me a long time to work out how. The wiring is all in place on the boxster lights though (well it was on the ones that I bought from porschapart). If I was doing it again I would probably just pay the extra given the difficulties it caused me, but that being said mine do work fine and I got there in the end.

HI Greg
I have managed to remove the motors from the old headlight with out any damage but I can't figure out how to remove the false plate from the new headlights, any ideas.
Cheers

Hi Aaron, my recollection is that it is connected in the same way and comes off in the same way, but maybe I'm wrong. As far as I remember the is one or two screws to be removed at the opening that you can see, and then that it is held in with a ball joint on the end of a long arm, the same as the motor. I remember having to manipulate it around a bit once the screw was removed so that I could use a small screw driver to prise open the cup that the ball connector goes into. One of the cups broke when I was putting the ball connector into it when I installed the motor.

But, it was a few years ago now and maybe I am rembering wrongly!

Let me know how you get on, or if there is something else specific that is causing the problem and maybe it will twig my memory.

Greg
