996 door locks

After leaving my 996 for a few weeks,the doors could not be opened with the key.It just turns right or left without opening the door.Opened car using pull cord in bumper,opened boot and disconnected battery,re connected and used central locking.
Any ideas on how to fix door lock?

After 5 days the alarm system goes into sleep mode and disables the remote, which it was why it didn't work on the button. Disconnecting and re-connecting the battery will have woken it up.

Has the driver's door lock been changed at some point? There is a blade on the end of the key tumber which engages in the door lock mechanism. It can be a bit fiddly to get it lined up in the slot, and I suspect that it isn't engaged.
