996 engine replacement

I think and am told my 996 engine has finally given up.
Any ideas for best and cheapest recon or rebuild ??

This months 911 & Porsche World has an article on it. (Follow up to one a couple of months back).

What exactly does "given up" mean though? If it's not one of the issues addressed by the Autofarm mods, then we're looking at a different fix.

Hi,
My 996 also needs an engine rebuild, there is a knocking sound at idel i took the car to autofarm and spoke to Nick who was very helpful,he said the cost would be approx £6k.I would recommend talking to autofarm.
But as i only bought the car in Nov 05 i went back to the dealer who has said he will change the engine, after a long discussion just hope the the replacement is a good one.

Perhaps also worth speaking to Hartech (www.hartech.org), they rebuild engines too. What I thought was terminal engine failure turned out to be a broken valve spring, new engine not required!
