996 exhaust ? double or single ? difference ?

Hi there,

Noticed that some 996 Turbo's the exhaust pipes are a single oval like here :

This usually happens in pre-2002 cars.

In post 2002 cars each pipe is usually two somewhat-circles overlapped, like this :

It is only cosmetic ? Any performance impact ? Was a result of a 2002 restyling ? It its an optional ?

Although I can't see the pics, I know what you are referring to, they are purely a cosmetic mod and you can buy them from most Porsche outlets.
