996 Fuel tank float sticking

Recently I ran my fuel tank right to the bottom (due to poor planning) and when I filled it up at the petrol station, the needle and "miles left in tank" reading did not reset and stayed at zero.

I spoke to OPC Chiswick (near my office) and they had never heard of the problem. I then called OPC Hatfield (nearer my house) in order to book it in to have this checked. They advised me to fill up right to the very top of the tank - I'm pleased to say that this cleared the problem. Apparantley this is a well documented problem with the 996 and the fuel tank float design.

Has anyone had this problem in the past? (At least I now know how to cure it should it happen again)
