hi guys need some of your great knowledge a very good friend of mine has a gen 1 and it’s running very badly on tick over. I plugged in a code reader in and there is some kind of fault on the oxygen system and various misfires hes changed the maf and there’s codes up for coil packs what else if anyone knows what to look at next.

I had one of my variable cam actuators pack up a couple of years ago, felt lumpy on tickover , almost rocking, but seemed ok once on the move, but only had about 200 bhp , I think we changed both in the end. I’m sure it showed a code.

A faulty Variocam actuator normally gives P030* codes for one bank (either 301+302+303 or 304+305+306). It may also give an emissions code such as P1125 (on the same bank).

Many thanks for the reply Richard as usual.Quick update number of faults says six. 50 cylinder 1 misfire emissions relevant, 51 same on cylinder 2 and three, 35 oxygen sensing range 1 cylinder 4-6 same 1-3.

thank you all again

I had a variocam relay ou ton my 996.1 when I first bought it - fixing it definitely helped (£800 ish as I recall), but I'd check out the ICV as well.
