996 GT2

I think it's because there are not so many of them about so less owners, than GT3s etc, so not so not so much of a discussion point. I also think when first launched they had some bad press, and values dropped off quickly, but they now seem to be coming more of a collectors item, and good value for money, i think a good one would be a good buy. Phil

I never see much chat about these cars on here. They not very popular?? Could they be a future collectable one day??
 
Interesting reading that. So im thinking that the 996 gt2 stop production by 2005 so on that basis there were 440 996 GT2's made??
 
I think it must be the last 4 years that include 997s. They made 1287 996 GT2s altogether. The way I interpret that chart is that there can only be around 111/112 left in the UK.

I think that the figures shown are the number which were taxed in each year, not the number registered.

Must be one of the fewer model 911's about then. Weather that makes them anymore appealing i dont know
 
For me it is all a bit academic. I think it is a shame when we talk about these things as investments, not cars. The way I look at it with my 3.2 is that I can use the car and enjoy it without losing a packet in depreciation. I won't make a profit on it if I sell it, due to the running costs, but if it maintains its value it will minimise the cost of ownership. I expect that is what you would get with a GT2.
 
Actually Richard i was thinking more in terms of how rare they are to own rather than to invest in and how interesting that makes them.

I agree with you there, sometimes i feel as though im the only 1 that uses a 911 as a daily driver. Im not that bothered about putting miles on it.
 
My 2004 GT3 hit 81,0000 miles going round Zandvoort with Mike Wilds on board last week. I bought it with 20,500 miles in Jan 2008. I'm totally not bothered about putting miles on it. A goodly number of the miles I've done have been on track because that's what the car was built for, not sitting around in a garage & being polished. When it eventually needs a rebuild, it will be getting a 3.9 litre conversion for added fun. Every mile a smile [:D]
 
I'm totally in that camp of enjoying the car for what it was made for but I also like the idea that what u have isn't a car that u see all the time. I can't remember the last time I saw a 996 GT2 and they are an incredible beast to drive are they not.........

There were 129 UK 996 GT2, 16 of which are Mk2 models. Only 105 cars remain in the UK including about 35 of which that have some sort of history. I have an offline 996 GT2 register which is slowly expanding to include the 997 and 993 models.
 
David, I have known/driven 911's on and off since the 80's, and love the torsion bar cars, and their unique feel, have driven 964's daily too but they are different, have a 944 turbo soft spot because they are just so good, and are way under valued, and never having driven a 996, I went to see a private sale GT2. I can confirm that, as anyone who understands Porsche's of old will appreciate, the Company have developed an incredible car in the 996 GT2. Its Powerful in that unique, flat 6 and, Porsche turbo manner. Its simple, (I can Service it like the 944T) Its comfy Its got real brakes It handles really well in terms of grip, steering & balance The upper hinged pedals feel floor hinged somehow, they must be in the same relative position The view out is similar to your real 911, although the pillars are wider and the nice quarter lights are gone. In summary, its a pussy cat or its pure savage, its up to you. George
