996 GT3 exhaust

Ive been offered GT3 back boxes,are these a direct replacement for the standard 1998 C2,if so what is the difference,do they just help the engine breathe a bit better?.
I have muffler bypass pipes fitted at the moment,very loud,if feel the throttle response is a bit sharper,but they drone at 50 to 70 MPH,which is bad news on a long journey.
